was thinking of popping this on the losing our salvation thread but it seems to have bumped into calvinistic vs ra de ra stuff.
I was wondering if anyone could clarify why we use the term "our/my salvation?"
I was recently discussing with friends who believe OSAS, which I can't quite believe (i.e. I would like to but feel I would have to ignore a bit of stuff to do so).
The question was raised as we were discussing "Can I lose my salvation? and if so how? (what sin do I commit etc to do so)"
I didn't really reply but something stuck out to me in the question and I'd raise it for all and sundry to discuss. On what basis do we form the terminology "my salvation"? Does salvation ever become mine like the green scratched up car out the back is mine? Is this an incredibly western mindset?
Isn't salvation the person of Jesus Christ? "Who became for us widom from God - and righteousness and sanctification and redemption- that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.""(1 Corinthians 1:30-31). Isn't this why there are so many things written about being or abiding in him (John 15, 1 John, Romans 8:1 for example).
I recently read 1 John 1:1-5 and discovered that Johns letter was based on fellowship and meeting with Christ and sharing that fellowship together.
Shouldn't fellowship with Christ acknowledging that we all can (and in honesty probably have, me definitely) forsake our first love, become cold and indifferent become the focus of our exhortations to each other.
I would be interested to hear your veiws on this and hope it inspires some to press on to know Him.
