"For my own part, I have never ceased to rejoice that God has appointed me to the missionary office. People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Can that be called a sacrifice which is simply paying back a small part, a great debt owing to God, which we can never repay?
Away with such a word, with such a view, and with such a thought! It is emphatically no sacrifice. Say, rather, it is a privilege. Anxiety, sickness, suffering, or danger now and then, may make us pause and cause the spirit to waver and sink. But let this be only for a moment. All of these are nothing, when compared with the glory which will hereafter be revealed in and for us.
I never made a sacrifice. Of this we ought not to talk, when we remember the great sacrifice made by Him who left the throne on high to give Himself or us."
David Livingston
"My Jesus, my Lord, my life, my all, I again dedicate my whole self to thee."
The above words were found Dr. Livingstone's diary under date of the day Stanley left him after failing to persuade him to take the only possibly opportunity of returning home.
