Cyber hymnal?

sermonindex Dec 24, 2008

Is it just me...or is the wonderful cyberhymnal website down?

I thought the website was, www.cyberhymnal.org, but is a parked domain space with advertising on it.

That's odd. I was just there the other day listening to a Christmas song.....

.
Beware of going there now. I just did and my Spy Sweeper and such started blocking and warnings started popping up on my computer.

Something weird is happening.

This is too bad, I wonder if they exceeded bandwidth with the holidays? Maybe they didn't have the funds to keep up? They really had a great thing going, which in retrospect I would have happily supported.

This is so sad. I hope that they come back online and aren't permanently gone! Does anyone have a way to contact the people who ran the site?

I did a quick WHOIS search on the domain and the status is as follows:

Status:AUTORENEWPERIOD

Joy,

You can get the information from doing a WHOIS. Do a websearch for WHOIS and you will get several sites that provide this information. I have sent you a link to it in PM rather than post the registrant for CyberHymnal here.

Oh boy... those last two posts make me look really nerdy... :-P

I've been writing too many technical documents at work..

I thought the website was, www.cyberhymnal.org, but is a parked domain space with advertising on it.

This indeed is tragic. I will look into this further to see if the site is actually not going to continue. I believe there might be ways to capture the old information and or re-input it somewhere. I was thinking of a hymnal section on SermonIndex perhaps this is the time!

For now, an archive of the site can be accessed here: CyberHymnal using the Way Back Machine

It's from Jan 08.

sermonindex Dec 24, 2008

Yes I was just looking at that: http://web.archive.org/web/20071011011244/www.cyberhymnal.org/ttl/ttl.htm

The archive grabbed the text from the files. I am considering would it be a worthwhile project to simply cut and past the 6600 hymn texts and titles into sermonindex for reference? I am just worried that some of this content will be lost forever and it would be good to retain it!

I would be happy to help if the Lord would have this to be done.

I clicked on the link and it works, like normal. In fact, I have a song playing as I type now. Truly it would be trsgic if it were to cease from existance.

Yes, I found out earlier today that it was back up. Praise the Lord!

Perhaps we should all contact the owner and let them know how disappointed we were at the apparent loss of the site, as well as expressing gratitude for the site. Strange how some things can be taken for granted and you never realize how much you needed it until it is gone.

I copied this from another blog. It contains important information about Cyberhymnal:

----------------

If you know anyone using Word.Net, tell them to find another company to do business with.

From what I can tell, they took the sweat and tears of the man that spent 15 years putting together the Cyber Hymnal piece by piece and are not using it for their greedy gains.

Here's what I figure happened:

1) Word.net jumped on the domain name once it expired.

2) It hit the owner of Cyber Hymnal by surprise, but because domain laws are what they are, there was nothing he could do

3) Word.Net took ALL the hard work this man did and is not using it for their own greedy gain. Notice how EVERY page now has advertising! For all these years, the pages never had any ads.

It's horrible that a company that claims to serve God is only using God's name for stuffing their pockets!

Spread the word. Cyberhymnal needs to go back to the original owner.

Here is the new name for the old way:

http://www.hymntime.com/tch/

sermonindex Jan 16, 2009

Thank you, Laura and Thomas for that info. I think we should all try to spread the news about the new site name and avoid the old one. That's a shame that those people are doing that to the original owners of cyberhymnal.

From the new site:

Many have asked what will hap pen to the do main name “cyberhymnal.org.” the le gal owner (Word.Net) is un will ing re lin quish it, so we can’t use the old URL. In ad di tion, our site search fea ture will not be ful ly func tion al un til search en gines have had time to re-in dex the site at its new URL.

Please spread the word about the new URL & ask Web sites to up date their links! God bless…

Perhaps we should "all" give them a friendly call requesting they give back the domain:

give us a call at (417) 894-3166!

We can also send an email to:
