A PM (private message) tale...

sermonindex Dec 29, 2008

A few years ago it was that Roniya joined SI.
After a time the pms started to arrive in the little box on the side.
She faithfully read each one and answered those that required reply.
But alas! Day after day they did stay, piling up and increasing their number.
For you see, deleting seemed such a hard thing to do because of the time it took to copy and paste those that needed saved.
But the day did arrive when she realized her dilemma, and that was, if she didn't start deleting, her account might lock up!
So hour after hour she plugged through the pile, deleting some, saving others...until at long last there remained only 4 Total Messages!
She hopes that you may profit from her tale of PM accumulation and take heed while the task be small for you, to delete those pms that are piling up before the task be too overwhelming!

Greg is probably the better one to answer that question. I was near 580, and he had told me it might lock up at 500. :-o

I have currently more than 780 and everything works fine. Haven't heard of this option of locking the account. Greg should explain more. Because I have precious things and memories there, that I want to be saved.

What I mean about locking the account is that the page will just not load well and freeze and then I would have to go in and manually delete the posts from the database end.

I recommend people save some of the posts to a word file on their computer. and keep the posts to around 200-300 or so.

Do you mean that the whole site of SI could freeze because of that, and every user will be affected? Or just from the side of the member which account is overloaded with PM's?
