How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?

I am a 73 year old layman, and like most others just hungry for more of God. I have recently found this web site and have listened to a few sermons and read a few comments in this forum. What strikes me is that the personal discussions and even some sermons come down to "how many angels can one fit on the head of a pin". I guess what I am looking for is fellowship in the Holy Spirit, how has God led today. What is he doing for us on a daily basis, revelation from the Spirit while in the Word. Encouraging one another to obey every leading. I find this type of discussion not possible with most church people. Yet the Word tells us about self denial and obedience. That the cross is an instrument of death upon which self must be crucified and until that happens the self within will not let us obey but rather find excuses why we should not. I believe that the Kingdom of God includes believers sharing the work of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives. It seems that this message is missing in the Holiness movement of today.

I find the title of your thread unusual, yet understandable.

There is much in the way of encouragement on this website.

However, when one attends church today, it sadly appears as, 'business as usual'.

Concerning holiness, Hebrews 12v14 tells us that without holiness we will not see the Lord. Holiness is not an optional extra, it is a grave need. More needed than we realise.

If I understand your post you would like to read more of how each poster walked for/with the Lord that day and not pointless discussions that only serve to cloud the issues. Is that it?

Well, here is something from my life: We are planning a large garden in the Spring and have been searching the flea markets and Craigslist for a good used gas powered garden tiller. Found one and went to see it. We were told it had recently had a new motor installed. We were given a strong impression the sellers were Christian. It would not start when we tried it, since it had been sitting up for a long time. But we bought it anyway. Got it home and it turns out it was a wreck. The gas tank was full of rust and the carb was shot. The engine had never been changed, either. We tried to find a replacement tank and carb but they were unavailable. Finally, emailed the folks we bought it from and nicely told them of the problems we had with it. Within an hour they were pulling into our driveway and handing us the money we paid for the unit and told us to keep it, in case we could get it running.

They knew where we lived because when we bought the tiller the wife had given us an extensive tour of their 'bird' farm. They are breeding chickens, turkeys, peacocks, ducks, geese, parrots and birds I don't even know. I had gotten some chickens a few months earlier and had an excess of roosters. I was planning on selling them but was dragging my feet, since I had raised them and I felt they would end up in a cook pot or a fighting ring if I sold them. I asked her if she wanted them and she came over to our place, bringing the tiller in her truck and took the 3 roosters. (Just the day before I had prayed about relocating them.)

Anyway, after they left I sent them an email and told them that we felt it was a very Christian act to return the money as they had and we Praised Jesus for it. We have not heard from them since. I am hoping they have not replied because they are busy. Perhaps, they expected a different response, or Lord willing, if they were, maybe they are thinking it over. I trust it will take root and bare good fruit in their hearts.

A week later, we followed another ad and found a very nice tiller, that works for the same price as the non working one. Still have to do the work on the ground but it is too early to plant. Although it has been Spring-like weather.

Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience. As we endevor to obey God, I believe he will give us experiences that will be a blessing in our lives and for our encouragement. Even the small things that "just happen" is our God trying to bless us. As we wait on Him and listen for his voice he will even lead us and guide us and show us what to do.(Isaiah 30:21).
A while back I wanted to go up north to fish and was trying to decide which lake to go to. I was considering four different lakes. I prayed and asked God if he would help me to know which one to go to. I felt no leading so I asked my wife if she would pray and see if God might help her to know which of the four. She finally told me she felt it was number 4. So I went there, it was just the time the small mouth were running and it turned out to be one of my best fishing trips, praise the Lord.

Indeed, God is looking for a Holy people as a bride for His Son. How can we be anything less.
I do pray for revival in the ministry as we do not hear that much about it.

We have been looking for a better box spring and mattress. We can not afford new prices and have been looking in our usual shopping places (flea markets and thrift stores). Found nothing that fit our needs. I prayed about it and the very next day my husband saw an ad on Craigslist for one in like new condition and a good brand name for $10. We called and made arrangements to go pick it up the next day.

The person selling it was a young Chinese woman who had just completed her college degree in Micro Biology. She was preparing to go back to her homeland. She was of a very sweet nature and talkative, too. She helped carry the bed down the flight of stairs to our van. It was a beautiful day and we all stood outside for a while talking. She said when she gets home her Father and Mother expected her to stay at home with them, she is an only child. She is anxious to get out on her own. I advised her to stay with them some because you never know how long you will have with your parents before they are gone. Her Father has some influence and is going to be able to secure her a good Govt job in her field. We told her that we believed her parents must love her very much to have sent her all the way to the USA for her schooling. She said they had come to see her multiple times throughout her time here, thus the bed she had to sell. Then the conversation turned to my husband and myself. She wanted to know how long we had been married and commented on how well we worked together and got along. We told her that we had been married for 33+ years and gave her a short version of our life on the road and living 24/7 together. When we left I told her I would pray for her and then realized I had not told her "who" I would be praying to, so I made a point of letting her know it was God's Son Jesus Christ that we pray to and follow. We told her it was through His grace we had found her ad and now had a nice new bed.

While we were walking through the apartment complex looking for her building, I had found a tiny plastic frog on the pavement. I placed it in the coin tray of our van and now when I see it I am reminded to pray for her. I may never know, in this lifetime, if she comes to accept Jesus but I asked her to email us and to stay in touch. Lord willing, it would be wonderful to see her when we get to heaven.

I am always encouraged to hear of encounters that Gods people have. Many times they can be devine sppointments. The person you witnessed to will probably not soon forget that there is a prayer at the throne for her. The seed is planted and someone else may water.
An acquaintance of mine who managed a bank branch had talked with me about his search for a camping trailer but could not find what he wanted for the price. Then one day I went to him for a short term loan and told him it was for a trip to Israel. The Lord led my pastor to suggest I tell hom that God would bless him for making the note loan and I did. Shortly after I returned I was having coffee with Earl (not a religeous person). He said, oh, by the way remenber what you told me when I made you that loan. I said yes. He said while I was gone, he found just the size camper he was looking for for less money and with about $500.00 worth of equipment more than he expected. I reminded him of Gods promissed blessing and he agreed.
God is always faithful.

It is fuuny that you call it the holiness movement & also mention the Holy Spirit. I know that the Holy Spirit is vital to our everyday life, if we read the book of Acts we see it was by the Holy Spirit that the Apostles were changed. We read about Stephen in chapter 6, if we were like him, imagine how much good we would be doing in the world. We are so privileged to have the Holy Spirit of the Living God living inside our bodies. I have been thinking about the Holy Spirit alot lately & know that if I can be continuously filled by & with Him, my life would make such alot of difference in this world for the Lord. It says in the bible that the letter kills but the Spirit gives life. In the book of John, he talks so much about the Holy Spirit & how necessary He is to us. IN John 14:16-26 it talks all about the Holy Spirit, we need Him so much.
It is easy to get stuck in a rut, no matter what movement you are in. We need to seek after all that God has for us. The Holy Spirit is the one that brings the Word to life for us & gives us revelation.

I typed a response but I think I hit the wrong button and deleted it so I will try again.
It is such a great thing to have the Holy Spirit living within and I agree that we do need Him so much.

It reminded me of a thought I had once about the door to door encyclopedia salesperson of long ago. As a closer to their pitch for their large and expensive set, they offered an annual uptade for the next ten years (I think that is how it was). I thought of how the word of God was given to us many years ago. It is the Holy Spirit within us that gives it life and revelation to our heart for todays living.
I had a spiritual mentor, Rev. Loren W. Helm. Through his ministry I was able to learn of the work of the Spirit in our every day lives, not only to comfort but to lead and guide us.
