I second Ryle's "Holiness", it's the best I've read on the subject and is very straight forward.

Chosen to be Holy by Alan Redpath - The Church is helpless without the power of the Holy Spirit. In a day and age of techniques and man-made programs this message is like a clarion call to the church of this day.

The Godly Man's Picture - Thomas Watson

But, first, make sure you are firmly rooted in a sound understanding of justification and sanctification. C.H. Spurgeon's "All of Grace" is a good book on the Gospel.

I have a quick question, what are some good holiness teachings that i may listen/read?

God bless and thanks for any info!

I can suggest some that can be read from the scriptures. The sermon on the mount is the greatest exposition on holiness ever penned. Galatians 5 is also a great read. ;-)

Two things:

1. Nothing is holy if God is not there.
2. Holiness is when the fruit of the Spirit are yielded in equilibrium (the indwelling Holy Spirit leads us in true holiness).

No one can be holy that is not full of the Holy Ghost. Dead religion tries to imitate holiness. Islam tries to emulate holiness with all sorts of things that are nothing but counterfeit holiness. Who dresses their women and more homely than Islam? Who prays with more attention? Who is more radically dedicated? Who among us would say that a practicing Muslin is holy in the biblical sense?

Some have mistakenly compared Islam and other eastern false religions asceticism to holiness and have pressed these false concepts back onto the churches. That is a very very dangerous thing to do. It is the epitome of worldliness, but it is preached as 'holiness'.

Why is it a false comparison to compare monks, etc. to Christians? Because nothing is holy if Jesus Christ is not there. Christians should not be influenced not enticed to compete with their devilry. Religion is worship in the absence of God. If God is not there, it is not holiness. I know this is redundant, but many are confused on this.

The Sermon on the Mount is the written expression of the heart of God lived out in the life of a Christian. God desires to bring many sons unto glory. He has determined to make man in His own image and likeness. This is a process of inward heart and character fascimile of God.

On the surface holiness appears to be a mystical mystery. Who can fathom the fact that God is the only- "Only One"? He is seperate and other than His creation. He dwells in a light that no man can approach. There is none that is "other" other than Him and none that is like unto Him. And in that separation and otherness is His holiness. How can we understand that? We can only seek to be continually filled with His Spirit. In that surrender we will find true holiness. How has the unapproachable been made approachable?

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

True holiness is conforming to the image and character of the Father. Lots of things pretend to be holiness. The pharisees were masters at cleaning a plate to be holy, etc. Holiness will accompany the person that the fruit of the Spirit is full in their life. Do you really want to be holy? Do you? Seek to live your life continually FULL of the Holy Ghost.

Holiness: Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties & Roots by J.C. Ryle

Next to the Bible, there are few books I would care to have with me on a deserted island. This is definitely one of those books.

I do not know exactly what you mean by "holiness" but I highly recommend Zac Poonen. He is a very balanced man of God who will challenge you and your "religious" opinions, if you have any!!

Here is the SermonIndex link for Zac Poonen.

Lysa,
I would highly recommend a book, "A Voice In he Wilderness" by Rev. Loren W. Helm. It is about what he learned about holy living during his life.
It is on line and free:

From "Abide in Christ" by Andrew Murray

"Christ is made of God unto us sanctification. Holiness is the very nature of God, and that alone is holy which God takes possession of and fills with Himself. God's answer to the question, How could sinful man become holy? is, "Christ, the Holy One of God." In Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, God's holiness was revealed incarnate, and brought within reach of man. "I sanctify myself for them, that they also may be sanctified in truth." There is no other way of our becoming holy, but by becoming partakers of the holiness of Christ. And there is no other way of this taking place than by our personal spiritual union with Him, so that through His Holy Spirit His holy life flows into us. "Of God are ye in Christ, who is made unto us sanctification." Abiding by faith in Christ our sanctification is the simple secret of a holy life. The measure of sanctification will depend on the measure of abiding in Him; as the soul learns wholly to abide in Christ, the promise is increasingly fulfilled: "The very God of peace sanctify you wholly."
