Through whose eyes are we looking?

The year was 1984. The Indian cricket team was playing in Australia. The match was being telecast live and I was watching it. During the drinks break, the camera-man would focus the camera on the people; specifically on women who were dressed immodestly. I was a new believer and it disturbed me to continue to watch the TV.
A thought occurred to me: if I was there in the stadium, what would my eyes focus on? As a new believer, I was struggling to keep my thoughts pure and my eyes free from adultery. But in front of the TV, I was not even given the choice. If I were to choose to watch the TV, I was forced to look through the adulterous eyes of the camera man.
Too often, this struggle is repeated in a believer's life.
For example, when we read a secular article in the newspaper or on the web, unsanctified thought processes come into our minds.
Hollywood and TV shows are powerful weapons the devil uses to accomplish this act.
We may not notice it at first, but we find ourselves imbibing the values that are propagated through the lead characters.
I am not suggesting that we should become like the monks of the Catholic religion, but there is a danger for us to be looking at the world through the eyes of an unbeliever. We must fight it at all costs.
George Mueller once said that he was guilty of being attracted to man's writings rather than God's. He was of course, referring to the theological writings vs. the Bible itself. Billy Sunday also said something to the same effect.
But as we were commanded in 2 Cor 10:5 : "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"
We must pay attention to see if the perspective we are getting is sanctified and Spirit-controlled.

You are right in what you say. Sometimes, I wonder if we are even conscious of God watching our every move.

There are some pretty disturbing things on TV, yet there are those Christians who will watch anything with no qualms whatsoever.

I know of a Christian who justified watching a movie with a good deal of bad language in it by saying, 'Well, it's nothing I haven't heard before.'

The sad thing is, this is just old ground being covered once again.

People will also point out that the internet is bad, etc, I'm not going to go through the list, but you know what I mean.

We should 'cast down imaginations' as the scripture says, since those imaginations are just that, and they are certainly not from God.

The sad fact also, is that TV is more of a god than anyone thinks it is.

In some homes it is on 7 days a week for hours at a time.

If only we gave that time to the things of God, the world could be so different.
