Assemblies of God

i have a question concerning the assemblies of God. My wife and I have recently moved to a new town. We have always attended a baptist church but from what we have seen the few that are close by are too liberal in their doctrine. My question is concering the beliefs held and practiced by the majority of the AOG. Is baptism required for salvation? Is speaking in tongues expected of all or is it a gift given at the discretion of God? Is the KJV used? Is the literal seven day creation taught? Does worship tend to be upbeat or are more traditional hymns used?
Any information you could give would be appreciated and if there is anything you believe would be helpful I will gladly hear. Thanks in advance.

I was raised in an AOG church and recently started attending one in my town, so I hope I can give you the answers you need. In my experiences, water baptism was thought of as mostly symbolic. The old time Pentecostals preached speaking in tongues as the evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost. Tongues and interpretations were common. Now in my church it's more of a prayer language by some.

Many pastors and believers here in the south still use the KJV. My pastor does. The seven day creation is still taught. Our church still sings out of the old hymnal.

The main thing to keep in mind, every church will be different. They may be AOG, but the pastor will influence everything in his views within the guidelines of the Assemblies. Visit, listen and enjoy. Be at ease with fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.
