deeply dissapointed today

i was at a book store, and i was wondering if i could find something by tim lahaye or jerry b jenkins or david w, so i find a very small "religious" section. guess what i find there?

"God wants yout to roll!" a book with, on the cover, someone holding lots of $100 bills. i didn't even read anything from it.

"the real davinci code, what it really means" i just put the book down because i know that the book the davinci code is a bunch of made up false myths with fake and wrong use of scripture ect. ect. so the "real" davinci code is just most likely adding to the already ruined effect.

i am just mainly venting and it is sad when you find only one or two books that may or may not even be correct. i saw one on the end times and one about why it is important for Jesus to be here, those two books i thought were going to be ok. but i already failed to trust that book store becasue they failed Jesus.
if this is just to much or just wrong for me to post something like this than just get a mod and delete this i'm mainly just venting here and stuff. thanks for listening. i am going to love the 1k year reighn with Jesus one day... it's going to be fun! (i think. i hope)

it sad to see such a famine of the word, the same happened to me about 10 years ago i went to a giant christian book shop. it had about 1000 different types of bibles but non of the old tools used for digging deep into Gods word. as i walked out of the i saw a for sale kart saying old stock that needs to be cleared. and as i looked down i noticed a boring little book for about 50 cents and the lord quickened my spirit to buy this book. This book helped me grow so much in my walk with the lord. The book was written by Tozer and it was about false fire and how the churchs will fall in the future. Many of these books shops have prostituted their faith for mamon! Not all christian book shops have done this but the numbers are gaining.

i remember someone saying something about a verse that God is going to send a famine, not of flesh or food or water, but of his word. i'm wondering if that is now.... i think it was an OT prediction and i dont even know if it was talking about the last days but still... i wonder if that is what might be happening now. or it could just be people are more willing to be wicked than good.

i think both, apart from this site it is hard to find many preachers now that bring out the pearls of the bible the real meat that transforms us and makes a spiritually strong. It is more about testimonies with out biblical references. the first thing that my pastor showed me was how to interpret the bible myself so that i can judge every word that i hear so that i will always know the truth and can tell when i am being rightfully rebuked by someone or encouraged. Alot of christians that i see today around my area. know the scriptures word for word but are unable to interpret the meaning of what they quote. that to me is the real famine of the word. there are bibles everywhere but only a minority of people around the world understand it indepth. A christian brother of mine is true christian but he is unable to find the deep things of God in scripture because he was never taught these skills. (i am showing him)

Personally, I don't read any Christian related books at all, except the Bible, not that some probably could not Bless some of us, but bottom line all books are generally opinions and not "complete truth".

The book stores could not stay in business if they don't sell books, so it's the books we generally don't like or approve of, that keeps the doors open to the book stores. God is the only one that can and will change this world, not anything we do will, because even the things we do God works through us, so he still gets the credit.

I personally don't concern myself to much about all goings on in the world today, because when all the smoke has cleared, I know were I will be. It took me a long time to finally figure out the world is changing all around me, some good and some bad, I am not the Savior, I cannot stop the happenings, but I can trust in God and follow him and let him led me through this and rejoice when I get to the other side.

The state of Christian bookstores is sad. I had a budhist friend at work who was leaving but had been interested in my faith. As a leaving gift I took her to my local Christian bookshop (that's what we call them in England ;)) to get her a Bible. I wanted to get her what I considered a solid translation (ESV, NKJV, RSV etc - just my opinion, not trying to start a debate) but she also didn't want one that had HOLY BIBLE on the front because she wanted to read it on the train, and wasn't a Christian yet.

They had such a small selection of Bibles that we couldn't find the one she wanted, and when I enquired they said "it's not really a high season for us for Bibles, so we don't stock as many."

I was quite shocked by that.

The bad stuff does seem to have a way of permeating everywhere, I was visiting a silk making store in Malaysia and they had 5 books on sale, 3 were by Kenneth Copeland.

I currently have a vision to get genuine godly content back into Christian bookshops in the UK. God seemed to have started the process by setting me up as the UK distributor of Art Katz' books. They aren't in bookshops yet, but at least we can get them out.

RE: Only reading the Bible. I used to take the same approach (that there's no point because they are all just man's opinion), but you could say the same about sermons, in that they all come through men. I think the right books at the right time can profoundly affect a life as much as the Scripture they are based on. Just as a sermon can be preached as if Christ Himself were preaching it.

The only thing I can say regarding your disappointment is that you're not the only one who feels it - but Jesus will be glorified, and He will build His church. Keep heart brother/sister!

This is how I feel, also. However, my husband is of the other mind. To please him, I have stopped reading the Puritan classics I have and have been reading exclusively from the King James Version. At first I felt I was being deprived but God has proven my attitude to be just that, an attitude and he has given me a new one. Each night before sleep I look forward to reading from the Bible. Some nights I read a Psalm, others a chapter in one of the many books of the Old Testament. Some day the Lord my reveal the truth contained in the above quote but, if not, I am not losing anything by not reading other books, in fact, I have gained. It is all for His glory.

I agree, I have many friends who don't read other books because they say that "they don't read enough of the Bible as it is".

I think when reading other books it depends on [i]what[/i] they are reading. At the moment I'm reading Apostolic Foundations by Art Katz and I feel the Lord is using it to challenge me and prepare my heart for preaching soon, etc.

I also get sent books that are hundreds of pages long just expressing one side of a 'debate' (e.g. Armineanism vs Calvinism) - and those books I think are best left alone with the Bible being the preferred choice.

Regardless of extra reading, the Word of God is all the reading we'll ever need, and I agree you lose nothing by sticking to it, though you may gain from some Godly books in the same way you may gain from a Godly post on this forum or a godly sermon - well I think so anyway.

Also, I think you're glorifying Him even more by submitting to your husband in this matter. Your submission to the Lord is what is the most important!
