George Campbell Morgan (1863-1945) — was the son of a British Baptistpreacher and at the young age of 13, he preached his first sermon. Hehad no formal training for the ministry to speak of but hisrelentless devotion for the studying of the Bible made him one of theleading Bible teachers in his day.G. Campbell Morgan was rejected by the Methodists for the pastoralministry, but was ordained into the Congregational ministry. He was aknown associate of Dwight L. Moody in the Northfield Bibleconferences and was a sought after Bible teacher. He was the pastorof Westminster Chapel, London (1904-17 and 1933-45). During hissecond term there, he had Dr. D. Itwas an "eye-opener" for me, and I want to share his thoughts with you.His words about separation from false doctrine and apostasy ring astrue today, as they did decades ago.Morgan is teaching about Hosea 4:17, "Ephraim is joined to idols; lethim alone."". . . The hour is coming, nay, the hour is here, when loyal soulsought at least to stand separate from all complicity with any form ofthe misrepresentation of God, even though the form may be some newpresentation of Jesus that denies the things of Revelation. Theremust be no compromise.It may be objected that to insist upon that will be to thin the ranksof the Christian Church. So much the better for the enterprise of Godin Christ. The Church to-day, alas, has passed under the blight of apassion for statistics. I tremble sometimes when some of my brethrentell me that they have the largest Church membership in the city orthe State. They are in danger! I would like to be allowed to havethe privilege of revising their Church rolls! It would be of valueto know how many of those enrolled really represent vitalChristianity! The sifting of the ranks oftentimes is thestrengthening of a campaign. Ephraim is joined to his idols. Judah,the spell of idolatry is upon Israel. She is cursed, dazed,drugged. She is deluded, she is doomed. Judah, stand away! Noalliance with her! Stand away, as you value your own soul! 'Comeout from among them, and be ye separate.'Finally, let it be recognized that this call to separation does notinclude bitterness towards those from whom you separate; but a greatlove and compassion and courtesy.'Ephraim is joined to idols,' Judah, 'Let her alone.' God is notgoing to let her alone. God is going to deal with her. We shall hearthe cry of the Divine heart by and by, "How shall I give thee up,Ephraim?' But so long as Ephraim gives God up, we are to have nocomplicity with her in her idolatry. The principle is of applicationindividually.
