Reaching out but nothing in common...

I was approached by a father at my church concerned with his son because his son is in need of someone just to talk to that's his age. As far as I know, we're both believers, but his interests are completely different from mine... Such interests being I like sports, he doesn't, he's a black belt in kung fu, and I only took karate as a kid... There's not much we could talk about unless I guess it would be about God or Jesus. Even there though I'm pretty much stuck because I wouldn't know where to begin. I guess what I'm looking for are some topics to hit on and what exactly to bring up or talk about with him. By the way, I'm 18 turning 19 in May so there's our age group... His dad says he needs to feel apart of something.

Hi Lucash,

What has the Lord been doing in your life recently?

Pray. Pray. Pary.

If you are both teens, you both like food. I would start there. Pizza, ice cream, burger & fries, etc. Get something to eat together.

Then ask him questions about himself and listen carefully. His dreams, his interests, his favorite vacation, when & how he became a follower of Jesus, his favorite songs, etc.

But don't make it like you are interviewing him.

Use humor. It's a great icebreaker.

If he doesn't open up, then tell him about yourself without showing off (pride).

Remember, Jesus said in Matthew 25:31-46.

well he recently blessed me with a job at the local airport, he gave me a better deal on my car repair, he's allowed me to have the time to help those in need, I could go on and on, he's done a great deal for me!

I like the idea of food, however, a problem arises because my church is located away from town and I have to be at work @ 2 when church lets out at 12:30 and it takes me half an hour to drive from church to town... however, I've eaten after church before so I'm confident I can make time!
