THE PIT

THE PIT

A man fell into a pit and could not get himself out.

A Calvinist came by and said, "You were foreordained to that pit."

An Arminian said, "You could climb out of your pit if you really wanted to."

A Unitarian-Universalist said, "Your pit is only symbolic."

A Catholic said, "That's a pit."

A Charismatic said, "Just confess that you're not in the pit."

A Prosperity Preacher said, "You've got to give your way out of the pit."

A Church Growth Expert explained how to draw more visitors to his pit.

An Emergent Churcher dialogued with him about what he was looking for in the pit.

A Modernist assured the man that he did not look down on people who fall into pits.

A Fundamentalist said, "Flee from the wrath to come, thou pit-faller!"

An Evangelist said, "Come to the front of the pit and repeat after me..."

An Episcopalian lobbied the government to get him out of the pit.

Jesus took the man by the hand and pulled him out of the pit.

Thanks, Wayne. If this is not our personal testimony, we are in great danger. Beware of any gospel message devoid of the cross and the blood of Jesus Christ.

Ps103:2-4, Eph2:4-9, 1Pet2:24, Rev1:5,

Love lifted me!

LOL! Short and sweet. :-D

2 Corinthians 11:3
"But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

I liked your post. Isn't it so easy to get caught up in something the isn't centered in the love and Mercies of Jesus's Heart, and fall into man's thinking, and cold hearted self righteous ministry?

Millions and millions have.

so did the guy in the pit reach up and take Jesus hand or did Jesus just grab him and pull him out?

That depends on whether you are the Calvinist or the Arminian.

The Brethren in Christ say all of the above.

I don't get it? I guess I am missing something.

Scripturally, Jesus calls us to "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

So if by the "pit" you mean our sinfull lost state, well he offers His hand but we must reach out in faith and take his hand.

Well,I'll probably get blasted for taking slight issue with this pit analogy that many others seem to like.

Sorry. I guess I'm missing the point of the pit.

Somebody should write a book about these modern day characters, like Bunyan did with pilgrims progress :-)

You might know about C S Lewis' Pilgrim's Regress.

A 20th century witty homage to Pilgrim's Progress, it has modern characters, like marxists, scientists, and artists, portrayed in a medieval landscape.
