Agreed!
Jewish holy feast days are not exactly extra-biblical, but I understand and know that is not what you are saying.
There is actually much to be learned about the study of Jewish Holy days, (for the purpose of study and understanding) such as Passover, Pentecost, Feast of Trumpets, Feast of Tabernacles etc.
The Christian faith has its roots in Judaism, and should not be ignored. The Holy Spirit fell on Pentecost (a Jewish feast day), which began the Church...
Personally, I am not going to be so quick to dismiss the Jewish heritage of Christianity. ( and I am not saying anyone is doing this) I am reminded of what that Apostle Paul said concerning the Jews, of which he is one: "Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee." Romans 11:18
Jesus said that "Salvation is of the Jews" (and not the Gentiles) John 4:22
also consider:
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
“ The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”
Romans 11:25-27
Now in posting this, I am not talking about, or taking into consideration Jewish mysticism such as the kabala, or Jewish apostates, or any other thing like that, I never mentioned it.
I just found it interesting that the lunar cycles of the Jewish calender of feast days, line up with lunar and solar events like timed clockwork.
...Signs in the sun, moon and stars?
The Jewish holy feast days are based on the Jewish lunar calender and cycles, not the Gregorian calender which we have and use in our modern world today.
So for the purpose of study of these important Jewish holy feast days, to return to the origins of the Holy Bible to study it, is not a bad thing.
I find this a fascinating study, and worthy of consideration.
Now concerning the scripture you quoted.
Now what causes the massive earthquake written about?
The earthquake by itself will not cause the darkening of the skies, but an explosion and dust particles in the atmosphere would.
Personally, I think it is possible that the sun could be darkened by a massive explosion of some kind, and particulate suspended in the atmosphere could cause the moon to appear blood red, perhaps from a thermo-nuclear war or supervolcanoes, or both, or some other cataclysm/supernatural God ordained event.
Or perhaps, blood moons (lunar eclipses where the moon is a blood red) may be indeed what is referred to by the moon shall be turned into blood.
BTW There is an active supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park.
