DAILY LIGHT - MORNING APRIL 11

[b]In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.[/b]

My beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. - He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty: and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. - If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able to bridle the whole body. - By thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. - Set a watch, LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Christ ... suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but com-mitted himself to him that judgeth righteously. - Consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

In their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

This one got me doing a study on the word that was repeated in it a few times - "guile".

It's been a great study.

Here's just a wee part -

G1388 δόλος dolos From δέλλω dellō (an obsolete primary probably meaning to[i] decoy, trap[/i]; compare G1185 ); a trick (bait), that is, (figuratively) [i]wile: - craft, deceit, guile, subtilty.[/i] Part of Speech: noun masculine.

Psa 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

And then the only place that a good guy used the word "guile" about himself in context ---

2Co 12:14-16 Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.

Jamieson, Fausset and Brown on vs 15 -

[b]I will ... spend[/b] — all I have.
[b]be spent[/b] — all that I am. This is more than even natural parents do. They “lay up treasures for their children.” But I spend not merely my treasures, but myself.
[b]for you[/b] — Greek, “for your souls”; not for your mere bodies.
[b]the less I be loved[/b] — Love rather descends than ascends [Bengel]. Love him as a true friend who seeks your good more than your good will.

A. T. Robertson's on vs 16 -

[b]With guile[/b] (dolōi). Instrumental case of dolos, bait to catch fish with. The enemies of Paul said that he was raising this big collection for himself. Moffatt has done well to put these charges in quotation marks to make it plain to readers that Paul is ironical.
