The real Christ

I wanted to discuss this a bit more but didn't want to interupt Lars' posts on preaching. :-) Here's what was already said then I'll post my point after this:Don't mean to get off the subject too much, but i was just thinking about this as I passed this huge Baptist church they've been building near our house. I just look at it with sadness because I know that it will be filled because it will be the "new popular" place to go and they think they are doing the Godly thing because they are going to "a church" (and an especially nice, new big one at that). I was sad for the Lord. I just prayed "Jesus I hope you visit that place. Will anyone really be wanting the real You there? Lord, it would be great if you devestated them with your presence." But something tells me they aren't going to WANT to be devestated. -Chanin"Will anyone really be wanting the real You there?"What a rivoting question! Oh God have mercy! Have we made Christ in the likeness of our own desires? I was in a class once and heard a woman say something to the effect, "I love the Jews- I was raised to love the Jews!" The instructor replied, "You're not in love with the Jews." "Yes, I was raised to love the Jews", she said. The instructor concluded, "You are not in love with the Jews, your in love with the IDEA of the Jews." Are we in love with our idea of Christ or with the real Christ as He is and has always been? Have we discarded the elements we would like to forget- and fallen in love with a silouette of what Christ really is? -RobertWhat I was about to say but didn't, was that i hoped that they didn't just want the loving, nice, sandaled foot Jesus only- but the Christ who encompasses all - judgement and mercy, wrath and righteousness, awsome and unimaginable.Last night as I was talking and reading to my 8 yr. old son about the Lord, he came across a picture of God the Father. There really wasn't a face or anything just a picture that showed his hugeness, his powerfullness in all His glory. He said "mom, is God really this big, because if He is, that scares me?" I told him that yes, He was. So big and all consuming. He told me that he thought he liked "Jesus" better because he wasn't as big.I tried to explain to him what God was like, that Jesus was God too. How awsome and powerful He was. How he is coming back as a warrior and as a judge. He did not seem to like this jesus as well. :) He was so used to the stories of Jesus in his books and the pictures of Jesus as a normal human in sandals and holding children, etc.. - that is the Jesus he liked. I thought right away how most adults see Jesus this same way. I carefully had to show C.J. that God loves us immensly but that he is so awsome - that we are to fear Him also. When I explained to him how EVERY knee would bow and confess Him as Lord when He returns (even those who say they will not), he could hardly fathom it. He couldn't believe the power of it.Anyway, this whole thing totally made me see how many Christians see the Lord just the same as my son did- through stories and picture books. He is at the age where he can slowly start to understand what "fear of the Lord" means- but adults are sitting in their immaturity and many sheep are being led to the slaughter.

Jesus may suffer actual little children, but suffering is in store for adults saints who continually masquerade as the same ... When i was a child i spake, acted and thought as a child, but when i came to maturity, i put childish things away ... OOOo Yes Chanin you are right. I seen Jesus like that for along time until recently. I was taken through the Old Testament, I seen the power and might of God, His heart and His ways. Wow it was so overwhelming, fear or shall I say reverence for Him is all I have now.
