The World Health Organization cautioned that the swine flu outbreak could gain momentum in the months ahead, despite claims by the health secretary of Mexico -- the epicenter of the outbreak -- that the virus "is in its declining phase."

The outbreak is only about 10 days old, and even if the illness is declining, it could return, said Gregory Hartl, the WHO spokesman for epidemic and pandemic diseases, at a briefing Sunday. "I ... would like to remind people that in 1918 the Spanish flu showed a surge in the spring, and then disappeared in the summer months, only to return in the autumn of 1918 with a vengeance," Hartl said. "And we know that that eventually killed 40 million to 50 million people."

Mexican authorities believe the virus's most active period in Mexico was between April 23 and April 28, and Mexican Health Secretary Jose Cordova described the outbreak as being in decline in his country. As of late Sunday, Mexican health officials reported 568 cases and 22 fatalities linked to the flu. WHO says it has confirmed 506 cases and 19 deaths in Mexico.

The world has 898 confirmed cases of the virus, known to scientists H1N1 virus, in a total of 18 countries, WHO said Sunday.

I have to agree with Ian as well. And also I believe there is some behind the scenes planning with the Obama administration to cause panic over this in order to push through their agenda for socialism medical policies.

It's matter of hyping this up as much as possible to push an agenda just like they did with the economy in the fall. The economic collapse is real, but the Obama people and the media have hyped it sky high in order to rush thru dangerous legislation, and trash the Constitution. As one Obama administration person said "We should never let a good crisis go to waste".

You watch... in a couple of weeks it will be "this is a major crisis and we must act NOW...", just like they did with those stupid bailouts that did nothing but plunge us into the deepest debt we've ever seen in this nation. The economy has not recovered, and we're over heads in debt. Let's give DC a big hand... well done.

They are using the swine flu the same way.

People never mention that there was a swine flu outbreak in the 1970's during the failed Carter administration. The number of infections stayed low, more people died from the vaccination than from the flu... and in a few months it disappeared from the headlines and everyone forgot it ever happened... because it was much to do about nothing. Just media hype.

Ian, could you not have given your opinion on this topic without telling the owner of the site what he can and can't post? Had this been the first time you've done this, I'd understand that maybe it was just your anger over what they are doing with this 'story' about this flu. I'm upset with whomever is blowing this out of proportion as well - so I sympathise with all who are seeing the shady side of what they're doing with this.

I believe this is just the "test run" for the next "pandamic outbreak."
There's Always a "test run" for future plans to monitor the populace's 'reactions'.

My main point is - I don't feel we have the right to tell anyone what they can or can't post. Only the Owner of the Site can do so.

I'm praying for SI and praying that no one who supports this website or has been here a long time, will feel they have any "right" to tell the Owner what he can and can't post, as I mentioned, I've seen this before.

Let's just post our views on the topics and not judge or question the poster's 'motives.' Policing others is not our job but the owner's.
We don't KNOW each other - we only know what the other posts - not "why".

I'm sorry, I forgot to add that this story about the flu keeps morphing and the flu itself is as well, according to the LATimes etc.

Saturday, the LATimes said that WHO may raise the level up to 6.

Maybe if we keep this Pig-Flu to just one thread, it won't seem so bad or hyper.

We'll just watch what they report - that's all - no fear - they've already said that this is not worse than any other flu and certainly not 1918.
It can be frustrating, for sure - but just watching what they're doing is making us educated enough to speak to those we may come in contact with who may be fearful - then we'll be informed enough to give educated answers to help them.

We have countless missionaries in Mexico and this story matters to them, as some are also in the medical field and we are getting reports back from them.

I asked, if we could just keep one thread so as not to "incite fear" but keep the people informed, so they know how to answer those who are either at risk or are just fearful.

To any who has no husband, wife or child now because of 'any' contagious bug, this is something they wouldn't want to go un-spoken of. Our hearts go out to them.

Regardless if this should be a level 1 - 5 or 6, the Church should be there with some sort of knowledge to share and to show that we care - even if they don't come from 'our' country.

Neither I nor the brethren I know are fearful of this thing but I do find the humor in this as well.

Someone posts an Article from the main stream news reporting what the World Health Organization has said and gets to hear "Warning others that they may be or that they are spreading misinformation or falsehood is not wrong." ---- yet when a Republican president was in - oh my - we had to show the utmost respect and Never post any Articles unless they WERE from the Main Stream media or it would be called misinformation or conspiracy theories.

Well that was last year & before, but now it's this year.

We no longer need to say "Mr." before the President's name.

We can speak ill of this President and blame what WHO says and what starts in Mexico on him alone.

All in good fun friends - I just think the freedom of speech has gone through a paradigm switch with this issue of presidents & pigs.

'Who' is right. The most interesting part of all of this is that it all happened around the same time that Israel became a nation. The UN declared or made Israel a nation.
