[color=000000]"And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground" (Gen 2:7). This refers to the human body. "And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life." This describes how God gave spirit to man; it was Adam's spirit. So man's body was formed of the dust of the ground, and man's spirit was given to him by God. "And man became a living soul." After the breath of life had entered into his nostrils, man became a living soul. The spirit, the soul, and the body are three separate entities. "May your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire" (1 Ths. 5:23). The spirit is God-given; the soul is a living soul; and the body is God-formed.
This is a good description also of what happened to the disciples in the upper room when Jesus breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Ghost”.
For three and a half years He had been with them to teach them His Life, the “Way” of the Father; the principle of the cross Life and upon His dying and resurrection He returns in John 20.22 and “quickens” His Life in them that they become the plurality of it. In this, their spirits were made at one with the Father[regeneration]; their souls made open to the expression of His personality He taught them and their body, His Church, the venue through which His life would be propagated to a dying world. All that remained was the unction to function for it all to made effective, which took place on the day of Pentecost.
And added thought: The principle of the life of the spirit within his heart determines the disposition of the mind, will and emotions, . . the soul of that individual.
