Website hosting question(s)

First and foremost I pray that God is glorified in all our internet endeavors.

I have noticed that many folks here on SI have websites. I am thinking about about doing one myself and have a question or two.

First, would anyone suggest Joomla?

I have been thinking that perhaps CMS is the way to go for dealing with a multitude of articles.
What say you?

Second, any Joomla host recommendations?

I want easy, hassle free, good support...

IMHO joomla is easy to setup, but very difficult to learn. If you have the time to learn it then go for it. With regard to hosts, DO NOT USE GODADDY. I had them hosting my site for a long time and then realized all of the flaunting of women that goes on... even on their front page! BAN GODADDY!

I second Dreamhost. It is pretty easy to use, and I also agree with Greg's recommendation of Wordpress instead of Joomla for a personal website.

*Edit* - I am familiar with setting up Wordpress and making changes to the design. If you need any help, just let me know - I am a full-time computer programmer by day.

i can reccomand wordpress. it is very easy to use and you can start a webseite for free if you don't have a domain.

if you have already a domain and webpsace, then you can use wordpress as CMS System, way better and easier than joomla:

How easy is it to use WordPress as a CMS?

I know it can be done, but is there a lot of manipulation involved?

Just wondering because I will not be blogging at all. I will only be doing article archiving and would like to have several sections and categories that would also be sub-divided. CMS will be key for my project.

Wordpress is very easy to use, even as CMS. The only thing you have to do is to choose the theme very wisely. There are themes that are only good fpr blogging and themes that are very good for normal websites.

for example http://greg-violi.de is running on wordpress. good magazine themes are on http://web2feel.com (some of them are a little bit tricky to install, but you have to read the instructions...)
