I am so angry and just need to get it out. Just at the entrance of my neighborhood they put up a huge billboard with a half naked lady standing there staring at you as you drive by. Its an advertisement for a hotel and the slogan is just awful. I can not believe that they would put this sign up in front of a neighborhood filled with children and family homes. I asked my husband and he said that it is very distracting and makes driving around that corner difficult, he wants to avert his eyes and yet has to watch where he is driving. I know that this stupid thing will be up all summer and that I can not do much about it. I am praying that people will see how much we need the Lord and repent!

Why don't you pray for the Lord to have it taken down? Maybe you could get a couple of women in the neighborhood to pray with you. This could be an opportunity for your neighborhood to pull together in the Lord and when He answers your prayer His power will be proven to others.

If you investigate I hope you will find a way to force them to remove the sign or at least to 'clean it up.'

You might have to get a petition and take it around to the other neighbors, or something along those lines.

This society is corrupt and dying but there are still resources we can access.

I understand how you feel, but, when we , as a nation, have chosen to legislate our own morality, and choose permissiveness as freedom, the Flesh is then set free to devour.

The entire pre-flood World, and Sodom itself had been deluged beyond repentance, suffocated as a society in the very same rivers of filth, and at some point, the Lord had to make an end of it, for He too, experiences the exact same anger as you. The Lord however, doesn't become frustrated, He just JUDGES. Our time is near....[ see thread independence ]

It's appalling what bilboards, tv, and the like are propagating these days. I shouldn't be suprised but it just seems to be escalating to higher and higher degrees of smut. Beyond the obvious biblical implications, it's demeaning to women, horrible for children, and frustrating for many men.

And it's not like one can change the channel on a bilboard. Because of this there should be legislation that restricts these type of suggestive advertisements. That's not legislating morality in my opinion, it's legislating common decency in the interest of common good... especially for the kids. I'm not a big fan of 'rabid activism' like some of these militant Pastors advocate. The spirit of that kind of anger is deplorable to me. But an action done in the right spirit for the right reasons, and for the right cause is worth pursuing. But these things should always be proceeded in prayer, and perhaps you and your husband can pray for the woman on the bilboard as well. You never know when someone can come to their senses and understand how demeaning it is to their gender then speak out with the righteousness of God behind them.

I share your concern! We have a mall here in Monroe that I rarely even visit for such reasons. It is sad when you can't even drive down a public street without such nakedness "in your face".

Here in America, we are SO accustomed to getting such things accomplished by legislative action, that we often neglect our most powerful resource.

I remember hearing a message from Keith Daniel where he told of visiting . . . I believe it was Times Square . . . where he was SO grieved at the open sin that he saw coming out of a business there that he dropped to his knees right there and wept and cried out to God. Pedestrians gathered around him as he interceeded for God to destroy that wicked business.

A few months later, visiting USA again, he saw in a paper that ALL such businesses in New York had been shut down! In the message, he challenged American Christians with something like . . . "If you will just cry out to God, you could have this nation turned around in just a few months"

He is from Africa. In other countries where legislative activity isn't as effective, they are more accustomed to getting things done by united prayer.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm on a break at work, and I don't have time to listen through all of Keith Daniel's sermons, but I believe that this is the message where he shared that incident:

Is there a chance of annexing a sign near the advertisement that keeps you within the law but turns the game around? some examples:-

"So bland, it needs this advertisement".

"Would you take your family to a hotel with an advertisement like this?"

"Boycott this tasteless hotel!"

The idea is to make the presence of the advertisement work against it's intended goal of gaining customers for the hotel. Obviously it will only work if they are a genuine hotel and not a "pseudo-hotel".

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. After checking around I found out there is not much I can do about the billboard. The land that the sign is on is owned by the sign company itself, they rent the billboard out to whomever wants to use it and since I live in Nevada, pretty much anything and everything goes here. The local government is pretty easy going about this kind of stuff. No one seems to be bothered by the sign, its really common to see these kinds of billboards up all summer long here. As Nevadans they just are not shocked by it because the casinos always promote this stuff.(partying, drinking, ect.) This is just the first time I have ever seen this form of advertisement so close to a residential neighborhood. I will be praying though and trust that what ever God has to come out of this will. Meanwhile my hubby just focuses on the road and keeps his eyes as level with the hood of the car as possible. I guess this is the times we live in, people are just so accepting of this kind of stuff it does not shock or offend them, but if I rented that sign out and put up scripture I bet there would be an uproar!

you could pray God would give some money to change the sign, you could rent that space yourself and have a billboard say whatever you want it to say :-) maybe you dont have such money but just something that struck me.... would be nice with a sign that said Repent the kingdom of heaven is here.....

You certainly are a beacon of light :) It's great that there are people who care, because sadly many believers wouldn't think much of it. However it encourages you, this is a delight to read. Some friends who lived in Germany for a while said there was a lewd billboard right outside their house, and they could go to the public pool, see three naked girls there and not really think about it (how??). I do like White_Stone's petition idea; it's appalling that they'd have something like that where children would have easier access to it.

If you want to go with hmmhmm's idea, have a picture of the cross, along with text that says, "If you think this is offensive, you should've seen what was up here before!"

i'm so sorry, and totally understand, i live in nyc and there is pornographic advertising everywhere. it is horrifying. i'm so sorry you have to endure this, and your poor husband. i will pray over you guys for your strength and for the Lord to glorify His name through this somehow.
