Anyone else experience this?

I’m sure there are many exceptions but a lot of preachers where I’m from simply preach what their Fathers taught them and never investigate to see whether it is correct or not. They simply accept it because “Daddy used to preach it.” Some have spent years “in the Word” but know little. Many are also so denominationally institutionalized they would never take a stand or dare to leave.

I have personally met preachers that have said:

“Jesus told us to wash each others feet and if you don’t you are being disobedient and can’t go to heaven.”

“I will starve to death before walking into a store or restaurant that serves the devil's elixir.”

“The KJV was authorized by God.”

I could go on…

The word doctrine is seldom used and theology is thought to be satanic. Education is needed. Of course the cure is not necessarily found at seminary as many have already pointed out at various times here on SI. I believe many are simply not willing to work for it; and it is hard work.

Well i can recogince much, in other forms here over seas :-) but many hold to what the fathers taught, i think it is the same mistakes as pharisees made, after a while tradition becomes equal or higher then the bible, an elder in my church in norway said, for more then 30 years he read the bible with a filter from what his fathers told him, what they emphasized in scripture became all of scripture, even tho reading the word every single day, he could only see through this filter and see what he been taught, he said now he can see more clearly and he can see the context in things he used to believe are just not right to what he used to believe.

I believe this is danger to all of us, and we all need to remove this "inherited" filter independent from what background we come from, and also as we maybe are saved and brought into a church, you have a tradition there if the church is old enough, more then one generation, and a filter has been created.

hope you see what i mean, but also i found its much easier to "listen" to what others teach, then to go dig it out for yourself. So laziness is a great contributor to this problem i think....

but also i have found it very hard to confront some people, even if you have a bible and several verses, point out the stupidity in some things, some cling so tight to what they believe one wonders why?... but i think the root is fear and pride, fear of man and pride of tradition, religion.... i could be wrong

Yea, there are a lot of backwoods, uneducated country preachers around here that woulnd't know theology if you hit them in the head with a thick Matthew Henry commentary. Mostly in the fundamental Baptist churches, altho there are some Pentecostals like that too. 4th generation preachers who think we're still in prohibition times. And they don't know how to preach anything except how to be saved... which is ok, but when you preach that to the same 35 people week in and week out for 15 years... it's kinda stupid.

On the other end of the spectrum we have preachers that are too educated... not in theology but in church growth. Seeker friendly types. North Carolina has become such a dichotomy when it comes to chruches.

God does the calling. He anoints, equips and sets the man of God on His journey to sow in the field.

These guys that don't stand for the truth are either hirelings, or they've gone astray doctrinally, it's easy to do when we put our strength in the arm of flesh.

The good news is that God is training men and women today in the secret closet, people that are absolute nobody's, that will turn the world upside down. The kind of group that I like to be apart of, eh?

Yep...its called Primitive Baptist. Guy I work with, came from this denomination, his father is a preacher for this denomination. They believe in foot washing as a sacrament to follow literally. KJV only, no evangelizing because they claim it has already been done. Theological studies are evil and from man, there was several other things too.

KJV-Only for all the wrong reasons. Some of us KJV-Only folks aren't out there in left field... we've actually studied the issue. :-)
