Hi bible4life
I'd highly recommend this book. In a time when the holiness of God is often overlooked in our churches this book will teach you more about God and will leave you more in awe of Him. Sproul tackles difficult portions of Scripture with clarity and respect.
I doubt even Sproul would say this is the 'best' book on the subject. Perhaps in the modern day, but he'd probably point you back to Edwards, Calvin etc for more thorough works on the subject.

I have R.C. Sproul's book; but it is not a
biblical study of what holiness means and
how to gain it, I would rather read J.C. Ryle's
sermon "We Must Be Holy."

That's because the book is about God's Holiness, not ours, a far more important subject I think.
You are right. The book talks about the righteous
standard of the law, the severity of the justice
of GOD, the doctrine of justification by faith
and Martin Luther and many other important
truths.

There is an interesting text sermon on SI called "A Clean Church" by Seth Rees. It explains the difference in the behaviour of the Apostles before the Pentecost experience of "baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire" and after they had received it.
Sorry I have tried to make a link to it but it did not work.
i actually found an old link of his site on google offering a free pocket size holiness of god book and i ordered it and got it in the mail and a free mp3 and dvd also that they sent me. All i did was look it up on google.
Here is the text sermon mentioned:

I write a few articles on this subject:

[b]Worldliness Is Wrong! Dear Church by Greg Gordon

I would suggest
By J.C. Ryle
I agree with tjservant. Sproul's book is very good, but if you want to read about personal and practical holiness there is probably no better book than J.C. Ryle's "Holiness".
I have often said to my church that if I could get just one book into the hands of every Christian it would be this book.
But do also read Sproul's book on the subject.
Steve
i now have sprouls and jerry bridges the pursuit of holiness. Most of all i have the bible. I am just trying to find how offensive sin is to God and get an understanding how holy is and somehow or another i pray that God can give me a revelation how sinful i am compared to his holiness. I need that to hate and abhor sin.
