Recently as I have shared with Christian people in several places in North America I have been reflecting on the fact that we seem to be in a deep apathy concerning revival. The prayer life of many believers and the hunger to read His Word seems to have become only an occasional time with Him.
One of the things I note is that revival never comes to those who do not want it!
It is as though we must have a moving or stirring of the Holy Spirit in our hearts before we even realize that we are hungry for God. This illumination can be seen in the story of Jonah and in chapter 3 where the people of Nineveh have no care for the things of God until the prophet comes speaking the Word or message of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is exactly what we need to pray for in these days. That the Lord Himself would open our hearts and eyes to see our need of Him and give us a genuine hunger for righteousness.
Some years ago people in North America had a sense of urgency concerning spiritual things, an understanding that eternity awaits all of us. Only a right relationship with Our Lord Jesus Christ will be of value in eternity. All our politics and ideas will fall away as we come before a Holy God. Many who have no concern over where they will spend eternity need to hear the message of the Christian Gospel in a clear way.
Although the world basically says we are good people getting better with education and self help things, the Bible says that any person without Jesus Christ as Saviour is spiritually dead and in need of life (Ephesians 2:1). That life can only come when we understand that we are in need of making peace with God through Jesus Christ His Son. He died as a substitute for you and me on the cross and only in accepting Him and His sacrifice can we find life eternal. The way to God then is the way of repentance where I admit my need of Him and Believe His Word about salvation, Confess my sin and trust in Him.
May God grant us a revival so that millions will find the only way of Salvation in Christ. So that He will be glorified and no person can receive credit for the work which He alone does.
