Wesley's questions for meetings - help?

sermonindex Jul 26, 2009

A good while ago someone posted a short set of questions which small midweek groups of Christians would answer to each other for discipline, prayer, praise and encouragement, who met under the guidance of the Wesleys.

Does anyone out there know the questions, or remember the original thread?

This is not the list of twenty or so pointers which has been posted on SI more than once, but a set of five or six questions. The only one I remember was to do with confessing having fallen into sin, or, towards asking for prayer for a struggle with a particular sin. Other subjects were covered by the questions.

Thanks in advance. :-)

Hi Alive,

Wesley's Band Meeting Questions:

1. What known sins have you committed since our last meeting?

2. What temptations have you met with?

3. How were you delivered?

4. What have you thought, said, or done, of which you doubt whether it be sin or not?

5. Have you nothing you desire to keep secret?

Are these to be answered out loud? or to an accountability partner?

Here is a list of questions that I got from a Methodist website that had some helpful information on the Methodist Class Meetings. Unfortunately the site is no longer in existence but I did copy these items.

These Class Meetings would be held in someone’s home and the participants would discuss their spiritual condition with each other. Each would be free to ask any question concerning the spiritual state of another and generally advise, reprove, comfort or exhort, as occasion may require. Here are a few of the questions that were normally asked in these meetings. This is a great way of determining if we really are “working out our salvation”.

1.Have you the forgiveness of sins?
2.Have you peace with God?
3.Have you the witness of the Spirit?
4.How is your relationship with your neighbor?
5.Have you a love for spiritual things?
6.Have you any questions relating to Christian experience?

In Christ,

Ron

Hi Compton,

I think these must be what I had in mind, but I had thought the matter of stuggles with sin related to only one of the questions.

To Aymaco,

They were answered out loud! :-D

Hi Ron,

These questions are useful, and also equally challenging in their own way.

If anyone has another, slightly different group of questions, I'd be interested to see them as well.

Thank you all.
