you metioned Piper, here's a biography of David Brainerd, missionary to the Native Americans at Crossweeksung New Jersey, this is a wonderful teaching John wrote about David:

I highly reccommend "The Life of Brainerd", its Brainerd's private journals that Jonathan Edwards published after David went to be with the Lord at 29 from TB, David didnt want these journals published, they were private, but Edwards implored him in the Lord, that his journals would lift the spirits of other struggling lonely saints in the mission field and Praise God!, they have, to this day, the Life of Brainerd has never been out of print.
