Why did Saul go into the cave?

From what I have read (not that I have spent much time studying this!) is that this is exactly what Saul was doing.
An interesting side note is that with each new modern version to come out (some 80 new ones since 1881) this passage of scripture seems to get more and more vulgar. Why?

Well, to answer your question. In Hebrew, to cover one's feet is a polite way of saying using the restroom. The KJV often translated it 'taking a nap' or sleeping...not really sure why. They translated it that way too when Elijah was taunting the prophets of Bale. Where he suggests that maybe he's taking a nap the Hebrew reads 'Covering his feet'.
Let's just say that Saul went into the cave...and leave it at that.

If everyone got their mind out of the gutter, you'd be able to see that "relieving" yourself can mean much more than going to the bathroom. If my feet are cold, I can go into a cave and relieve myself. In otherwords, I can put a blanket on them to relieve myself of the cold.
If someone is on fire, you can relieve them by throwing water on them.
Haven't you ever said, "Oh, I feel great relief!" Does that mean you feel like you really need to go to the bathroom? No. You get what I'm saying? I hope so.
I don't think Santana's mind was in the gutter, It seemed like an honest question to me; albeit a delicate subject, but still an honest question nevertheless.

Someone said that I should be occupying my time with more important things but this is still the bible; another verse to disect.
I want to know what led him to go into a cave where his enemy was. There's no vulgarity here.
It would help me to have Book/Chapter/Verse posted for scripture to be considered. Not that my time is important but it is limited. :-)
I would like to check in my Matthew Henry Commentary and see what is there.

When one is walking for a long time, particurlay with uncovered feet in a desert climate, no boots etc, cracks begin to develop. Our skin harbor many harmful bacteria's, the feet are vulnerable to such bacteria's and a good way to disinfect such areas are to use urine. Gross as it sounds, urine, one's own, has amazing properties in this regards.
I found this out the hard way, as I contracted a very nasty life threatening Strep Group B Blood infection in my left instep, however in 2008 the doctors used a cocktail of 3 antibiotics to combat this fell bacteria, but in 1000 BC, we didnt have such medicine...thats my read on this, AND I believe no question, innocently and earnestly asked is inappropriate in regards to God's Holy Word. Our Father loves when we pursue the knowledge of His Word, thats my conviction.

ps. I also believe that a man, who has a rural area to relieve one's self should always use the great outdoors, rather than waste precious water. Women , of course, have different needs.

If whoever started this thread considers it a good question thats fine by me. I would lean toward the cold feet definition; however I could be and probably am wrong.

Yes, I understand the human propensity for discussing such things. For me, there are certain things that just aren't that important to know.
Saul went into a cave. Whether he went in there to take a nap, massage his feet, or, well, relieve himself -- the important thing was that he went into a cave and simply "relieved" himself. Who knows what he did in that cave? Saul...and God. Me?
I'm just not that concerned about what Saul was doing when David cut off a piece of his robe.
