A VISION - HARVEST or CIVIL WAR?
-by Robert Holmes.

To fight or not to fight, that is the question. Or rather, to fight
this enemy or that. There is a battle Christians all need to wage
against the enemy of our souls, the enemy of the church - Satan.
But there are many other skirmishes and insidious battles being
fought by the brethren. These are the skirmishes of church warfare.
There are lines drawn between this movement and that, between
this crowd and that, battles being fought to divide the church...

But the Bible teaches us that we should not skirmish and rail against
flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers of the air, who influence
and affect our brethren (Eph 6:12). We are to take up the shield of
faith with the sword of the spirit and join God's warriors fighting a
common enemy (Eph 6:16-17). I have asked myself why we are
led to divide the church, why we go into battle when we should be
building the kingdom...

A PICTURE of WAR

I had an open vision in early September 1997 that showed me a
startling reality of what is happening right now in the church. A
cinema style video opened up before me as I was praying one
evening. I saw a black and white film, which looked like it was made
in the 1940's. It began on a farm. Dozens of men were working in
the fields, preparing instruments for the harvest. Then suddenly,
they began to leave the fields and walk toward a railway line. Trains
pulled up with streams, banners and a band playing. Many of the
men climbed aboard to go off to war.

The scene panned back to the field where many shovels, spades,
forks, scythes and machinery had been left idle on the ground.
Before me was a vast harvest of wheat, with scarcely no one left to
work the fields!

The scene changed and I saw women and children learning in various
schools and colleges. There were women learning trades and how
to operate machinery, children at lathes learning woodwork and
smaller children learning at school. So many women and children
had been left behind as their men went off to war. They had to learn
how to survive and remain productive without them.

The vision closed with a picture of a lone man standing in the field.
Behind him lay all the discarded tools of the harvest, before him
was a huge field of wheat. He did not look perplexed or dismayed -
he simply prayed God's blessing and began to work.

The HARVEST

I ask you, is God's agenda for us to lay down our tools of harvest
and run off to war? I know for sure a battle is raging, there is no
doubt of that! Indeed the enemy comes to devour our harvest, he
comes like a plague of locusts to eat the crops and steal the seed
before it can germinate. It is true we must fight, and fight hard
against the devil today, but let me ask you - what war are you
running off to fight? Where is our focus?

"Do you not say, 'Four months more, then comes the harvest'? But
I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for
harvesting. The reaper is already receiving wages and is gathering
fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together."
(John 4:34-36).

WHERE is OUR FOCUS?

The rumble of an exciting opportunity to go off to war resounds
across the land. These days we run, leaving the weak and the
young behind to do the productive work. We want to glory in the
temporal, while Christ is working the eternal. We are putting down
our tools, and taking up guns and weapons.... And there is Christ,
standing alone in the fields crying, "These fields are ripe unto the
harvest, pray for labourers".

Where are you going Christian? What is consuming your energy
right now?... Are you one to run off and join the train, the band, the
noise, the army gathering or will you stay and fight for the harvest?
Will you join those who devour the land before them or strike at the
plans of Satan to destroy the church? God is preparing a harvest,
lift up your eyes and see the work it ready to be done! Behold the
fields are ripe unto the harvest and the reaper is already collecting
his wages.

This is a post from another thread but I would like to put it here as well. Hope y'all don't mind.

Are you sure about that?

Concerning christians and government involvement much has been said and written and more will be before the Lord returns.

Usually it falls on not being involved at all or yes, being involved but at best your compromising the true mission or just flat out not a christian. Then those who are on the "gotta be involved in government or your not doing your christian duty" side look at the other side and say you need to get over here with me and be involved. I know that there are also those who have resolved a healthy balance for both positions.

Those who have a healthy balance of both positions are the ones we need to hear from more. They are the ones who posess better wisdom,(not PERFECT wisdom,) and insight on what would bear the most fruit.

What might this "balance' look like?

Well lets give this a try.

Those who say your compromising the mission of the gospel by being involved in government lighten up a little and instead truly pray for the success of there bretheren who are trying to do what they see is right. Yea, you know, pray for the leaders thing?

Those on the other side who say, hey, get more involved, should understand as well that not all are called to that ministry.
How wonderful it is when each looks at the other and instead of saying don't be involved or you must be involved or your not a christian, instead say Go get em brother I support you and am praying for you as you labor in your particular calling!!

I know that this is not an easy topic to just fix in our minds. I have held views on both sides and feel I am a little closer to a healthy spiritual balance, but I do not say that I have arrived.
I just wanted to add this into the mix as one who has labored on both sides over the past 22 years and this is a little of what I see on the subject.

Thingsabove,

I have labored for over 44 years, in the flesh and out of the flesh. I have fought for my country and for the church of Jesus Christ. The issue is not about a healthy balance of positions. If you are involved in a war where you are fighting in the flesh you are in the wrong fight and you will lose.

Rev. 13:7-10
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. [8] And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. [9] If any man have an ear, let him hear. [10] He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Rev. 14:12-13
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. [13] And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Ephes. 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Matthew 16:17
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

2 Cor. 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; [6] And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Col. 3:1-2
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Col. 3:8-17
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. [9] Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; [10] And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: [11] Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. [12] Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; [13] Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. [14] And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. [15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. [17] And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. [35] By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Being involved in civil war will not accomplish any of these things in the Lord; only in the preaching of Jesus Christ and Him crucified will we see hearts transformed and yes it may cost you your freedom and your life. We must truly ask ourselves, is this worth a soul in the kingdom of God? Count the cost, what are you willing to give for a soul?

Luke 10:2
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Lee, I've done the same thing as you only not as long. I also know that even if I had labored in both realms for 66 years or more it dosen't mean I will be totally correct on this issue.

The scriptures you have put here are right on.

However what about your brethren who are laboring in the goverment or in the military?
Accoring to what you say, I and they are IN THE WRONG FIGHT AND WE WILL LOSE... well maybe i'm just not understanding your take on this.

Lastly, maybe think again saying this is not an issue about balance. Every "issue" or marriage or brotherly relationship or church fellowship requires some balance.

Thingsabove,

How do you know you have done the same things as me?

If you do not know what is correct than maybe you should ask, seek and knock.

Luke 11:9
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

You say the scripture is right on and then you say “what about”. There is no what about
in the word of God. You either do the will of God or you do not.

Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

I still say it is not an issue about balance. You are taking an issue about apples and trying to apply it to oranges and it does not fit.

You are the one who is asking what about, let me ask you; what about civil war? Is it called balance to push and instigate a civil war when the harvest is ready?

Luke 10:2
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

I will continue to labor and pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers into his harvest.

And I will pray that the Lord's will be done in you as you seek success in your political career.

O.K. Lee I guess for now thats the way it will be for you.

By the way, I am just a soldier, not a politician.

Thingsabove,

Sorry, wrong guess on my part.

I will still pray for the Lord’s will to be done in your life just as I do each day for each one of my family. May He keep and protect you as you labor for Him.

May we both continue to mature in the Lord as we study His word and seek His will.

Blessing on you and your family

The warfare that we are in is truly against the principalities and powers of darkness. It is not against flesh and blood, but where are the powers of darkness? They are wherever man has sinned and given place to them.

So the job of the Church is pray "thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

Whatever we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. Whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven.

We are to occupy until Jesus comes. We are to take back that which the devil has stolen, and that is in every realm. That is in government, education, and wherever God has placed you in your employment.

Mike
