There is such a focus on sin because there is, at least in America, such a high degree of false profession and people who just keep on living the way they did prior to their" salvation."
Yet, we must look to Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. There is a time for introspection, there is a season for this. I like the man who goes to bed every night having done his best to walk with the Lord that day and know that He fell short but above this he knows that He is a child of God, he is the apple of His Father's eye. That when God looks at his adopted children He sees Jesus and His righteousness. Ah, even now I hear those who do not truly understand this and the legalists say " this is a license for sin,' he is promoting, nothing could be further from the truth. Those who truly know Jesus never sin lightly.
Act 3:12 And seeing this, Peter answered the people, Men, Israelites, why do you marvel at this? Or why do you stare at us, as though we had made this man to walk by our own power or holiness?
No, God uses broken men, not Holy men. Our holiness is a direct result of our "proximity," to God. To get close and stay close to our Lord we must be humble men. So what is holiness? Imagine that Jesus is the sun, not Son. Now, imagine that you are the moon. Now, what lights up this dark world? Is it not the light of the sun reflecting off the moon ? Any "holiness," that we have has nothing to do with what we do, it has everything to do with our proximity to Jesus. Its His light, its all Him. Why would anyone look at us, as if we would have the power to do anything in our strength and by our own efforts. No, humility, brokenness, surrender to the fact that we are nothing without Him.
Do these things, lift up our eyes to Him, looking on the one who was slain for us, and not upon our sin, this is what allows a man to walk in the knowledge that yes, without Jesus he is nothing, but we have Jesus and we are sons and daughters, called to the battle. So, there is a season for all things, lying in the fetal position bemoaning how vile you are is not going to win any wars. We are called to battle brothers and sisters, we are called to array ourselves. You just show up and He will do the rest. Paralysis of analysis is not going to win battles. Its stouthearted men and woman that the Lord is calling for. Beware that it is the voice of God that you hear, you who continually remind the Body how vile they are, for there is another force who gives this message too and it is designed to destroy and keep the soldiers of Christ cowed in the corner of "I am vile worm and can do nothing." We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Let's get the balance right. If we are imbalanced on this subject, then it is mostly on the "vile side." We will be of no use in the battle if we do not realize that we are sons and daughters, of the living God, priests in a Royal Priesthood. I know and understand that because of the false proffessors and their flagrant disregard of God's commands that there is a tendency to swing to the other extreme but I say, if you know Jesus then rise up and do exploits for Him........Frank
