Are there times when its right to do nothing

Greetings
Have you ever been involved in a situation with a family member and just really not know if it was something that you should get caught up in or if you should just walk away and leave it in the Lords hands? I have been praying about this for awhile and at times I feel like I should pursue things and other times I feel like this is not my battle just walk away. Is it wrong to just stop and do nothing at least until I know for sure what the Lords heart for me on this is? Also if someone accuses you of something, and you honestly can not remember ever saying or doing what they say you did, is it wrong to defend yourself and say I did not do this??

God Bless

Dear mj,

Is it wrong to just stop and do nothing at least until I know for sure what the Lords heart for me on this is?

Ps 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

When you are unsure of what to do in any situation, waiting and praying for the Lord to give guidance is the wisest thing to do.

Also if someone accuses you of something, and you honestly can not remember ever saying or doing what they say you did, is it wrong to defend yourself and say I did not do this??

As long as you speak the truth in love, correcting a false accusation is the thing to do. Even Jesus defended himself with the truth against false accusations by the Pharisees in Mk 3:22-30.

I too have been in a situation with a family member. I carried her for a year, constantly encouraging her to strengthen her faith and look after her unsaved husband & family. I tried so hard with tears. I then started facing backlashes of anger from her, she told lies about me, even to my husband, and tried to destroy my friendships with friends at our Church.
She placed so much guilt on me for not doing enough for her. She and her children now live a life that angers me and seek to constantly shock and upset us. Her children have told us they don't want God in their lives anymore and she even emailed me this week to say she was thinking of giving up the faith. I prayed so hard and did all I could with them.
I then recently came to realise something that released me. Throughout the Gospels you will notice that Jesus never chased after any one!
He never struggled and strived with people!
He simply said what He had to say and then walked on, leaving them to their own decisions.
I came to realise that if Jesus walked away from People then there was nothing wrong with me sharing my heart and then also walking away.
I am quite a chatty person and easily share my faith but I have experienced times, even at work, when the Lord has told me so clearly to say nothing!
Our most powerful weapon is prayer and yet so many use it as a last resort! instead of just leaving the situation in God's hands.
Many times now I have just placed a situation in His hands and say to Him "It's over to you Lord, Only you can do this" He can deal with situations more amazingly than we could ever dream of.
I too have many times when I want to pursue, but I stop and pray about it first.
A rule I tend to follow is that if it is of God then the burden to act will grow stronger as the day goes on, I will then act, but If it is my own feelings and not of God then after prayer the burden fades.
As for being accused of things, if you honestly can't remember - be honest and say so, but don't be on the offensive! be gracious about any misunderstandings and meet together to try and put things right. God sees your heart and he does defend the truth, the truth will always shine! I have never had to defend myself against lies, God has always been my defence.
Hope this helps you.

I am dealing with a similar situation with a family member now. I have shared the truth with this person for years. Now his life is in shambles due to poor decisions. I have prayed about how to handle. The Lord has impressed on my heart to let Him be this family members conforter and to let the Lord take His course.

This may sound harsh to sit back while this person is in pain, but I believe that this time in this family memebers life is a time that the Lord has set aside for him. Do Your will Lord.

Ask for forgiveness from this person. It is easier said then done, but do not bear the weight of this any longer and be set free from the bondage placed on you. Even if you are right, your family memeber cannot see it and will not see it any different, but they will remember your humble heart. They will know that we are Christians by our love.
