What if you really want to go to the mission field? Should you use your sponsor/support funds for those bills?

Answer 1. Yes and no.
No you should not go to the mission field with debt (student loans)... Yes you can go if the government approves a stay on your loan payments so you can go.
Answer 2.
No. Do not use any money that is given for the mission field to help pay bills obtained before going in the mission field. Only use this money for past bills if you CLEARLY state that you are using money doanted, for these bills. Be above reproach.
If folks have no problem with you using their money for past bills, go for it. Be transparent in all that you do when it comes to finances.
