What is revival?

sermonindex Sep 23, 2009

The heart of a prophet or a priest dwells in the presence of Almighty God. Nothing should ever deter us from communing with Him. It is more important than life itself, for what is life outside of His presence? What is learning if it takes the place of communion? What is a vision if the pursuit of it leads us away from Him? What is our calling if in the commission of our calling we take our eyes from Him? Only as we gaze on Him do we move in the power of His Spirit. What is revival even? Is not revival the overflow, the unintended consequence, the by-product of an encounter with the living God? Its not revival that we seek, its God Himself and whatever flows from that place. God Himself is our “exceeding great reward,” and revival is what comes of an awareness of the conscious presence of God. Oh that men would seek God Himself and nothing else, not as a technique to bring revival, but a genuine desire to come into the presence of the giver, and the gift that follows is revival. It seems that when God is sought and glorified for no other purpose than that, then the conscious awareness of His presence falls and we have what we call revival…………Frank

Rev 2:1-4 “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lamp stands:

I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.

I believe revival begins in the hearts of individuals and spreads within the church, when they (through the Spirit) rekindle the all-consuming fire of their initial love for God which may have cooled down over time.
