Bible Study Advice | SermonIndex

Saints,

Truly praise God. Fruits are finally beginning to be evident in my walk with our Lord. After listening to quite a bit of 'way of the master' over the last month and comparing their advice to scripture, along with a few years of listening to men of God, and after throwing many many seeds along the way, last week God used me to show, separately, two high school girls their destiny without Christ and they were both broken in their utter helplessness. The Holy Spirit was working in me and my wife to witness to one girl and her friend, while the other was a student that I taught four days later.

This leads me to the point of the thread. I am wondering what I can use as a bible study guide for them and me to use as we study the bible. I am very much ignorant to everything, so any advice would be appreciated. Maybe there is something online that I can just print off or use as a resource.

The bible study group will consist of two high school girls, my wife, and hopefully God working in all of us.

Prayer is also needed.

I haven't personally used or researched this, but I hear that Zac Poonen has some excellent resources on this. I don't always agree with brother Zac on everything he says, but, so far as I can tell, it looks like he hits on a lot of major and important subjects in his teachings. I believe brother Greg could link you to his sites, or you could find them through Google.

that one is a good starter :)

but a series that i find very good, excellent for young people and new converts would be this series, every part is about 10-15 minutes and is throughout very good and teaches the fundamental things about the christian walk and faith.

yeah, i agree and have listened to them also. i may direct them to these...

...i am looking for something that we can sit down together and use as a group...

mind you that these girls, along with my wife are Korean and English is their second language...sometimes i wonder if English is my second or third also.. :-( (hmmmhmm, i think you will appreciate my concern)

My advice is be carful, be on your guard for all attacks from the enemy. Just be very smart and intentional to avoid all evil, appearance of evil, and anything that would seek to disrupt your marriage. Wife leaves the room, phone calls, etc can all turn sour very quickly. Guard your heart above all things.

Don't ever get into 1 on 1 discipleship, especially after a relationship has been built from these girls coming out. Just be be careful brother.

Have you considered using the inductive method of Bible study? You start with a book and study through it, taking it all as it comes...

The problem with a lot of Bible studies is that they reflect more man's interpretation of scriptures and will use supporting scriptures to substantiate their doctrine. In contrast, when you do a book study, using the Inductive method you are allowing the context to teach you its meaning. Does this make sense?

I took a class in Inductive Method of Bible Study back in 1967 in Bible School and I have used it ever since. Actually, I have little use for commentaries because of using this method. We were taught this would happen when it is properly learned and applied. All you need is a good concordance, paper, pencil, eraser, Bible dictionary and a spirit of teachableness empowered by the Holy Spirit.

i agree and am in constant prayer about this.

Indeed, if you aren't already inductively reading the Scriptures by way of second nature, then I'd highly suggest you start doing so. It might seem to be less "devotional" in nature, and less "spiritual," but really, you'll never get the meat you and these individuals need out of the Scriptures unless you try to read them in their historical and grammatical contexts. Studying the word of God can require very dry and labor intensive homework.

I am and am very rarely without my bible.

I like what someone said, "I try not to be any further than 6 feet from my bible".

Still, I am hesitant to lead anyone in the wrong direction.

A spirit of prayer and a humble attitude goes a long way in teaching or preaching...

Prior to preaching, I occasionally ask God to kill me and to reveal me as a false prophet if I speak contrary to His word. Not to be seen as a fanatic, but to reveal my heart of wanting to proclaim truth, rather than lies.

I would honestly rather die than to propagate lies about God.
