the best book and sermon on the cross of Jesus

you should read "born crucified by L.E Maxwell", it had a very deep impact on me early on in my christian walk, you can find it here on si in the article section, but the chapters wont be in order, but probably you would be able to find it online somewhere or on a book shop for just a few dollars.

Along with what hmmhmm recommended, I would also submit [i]"The Seven Sayings of the Saviour on the Cross"[/i] by A.W. Pink. It's the most insightful commentary I've read on the cross to date, chock full of wisdom and scripture references and Pink's simply-written yet deeply profound manner of conveying truth and grace whilst exalting Jesus Christ to the uppermost.

I've yet to finish it, but have found it a very good read: The Death of Christ by James Denney is quite an awesome read. Brother Eli Brayley turned me onto this book, of which I am very thankful to have picked up to read. It can be a bit scholarly and technical in some places, but it is very good reading just the same.
