I really hate mosquitoes and roaches etc.
Anybody else share this animosity towards multi-legged critters?
(Not really sure if this hate is scriptural or not...)

John the Baptist liked them (well, locusts) with honey (Matthew 3:4 and Mark 1:6). Of course, he also liked clothing made from camel hair (which might have been a bit prickly and abrasive, if you ask me).
Me? I'll stick with fried chicken and potatoes.

*BTW, I am aware that some people still try to argue that the "locusts" eaten by John were some sort of seeds. I seriously doubt that (given the Greek word used). I think that he was eating bugs.

If you hate Roaches, then I can only hope you don't live on or near VCU's campus...especially in one of those apartments in the Fan! LOL

lol. I am not really fond of spiders. Kind of funny seeing me trying to get rid of them around the house.
Not fond of those pincher bugs as well. Kids love em though :-)

I used to live in the Fan... the building next to my apartment building burnt down at like 3 am couple years ago... we all had to evacuate... it was horrible.
While I was there, there wasn't much of a roach problem... although I did have to kill 3-4 mice.

Do racoons count? Whenever I open my door, there's always one standing right there waiting for me. It's such a frightening thing! I have to wait inside until it leaves. It's horrible when I got to be at work too! I want to buy a gun.
My Mother has a passion in killing any fly that enters her house. She religiously goes through her daily ritual of hunting down anything that "bugs" her.
I don't mind the flying creatures, I always think they have some purpose in this life. But life with these tiny insects have not always been so fuzzy.
I used to freeze up when a Bumble Bee, Hornet or a Wasp flew by, or just hearing it made me stiff as a board. I couldn't walk through field of flowers, scared to death.
I went up for prayer in a healing service and got prayed for about this fear and I was completely delivered from it. When I used to see one of these things at the window trying to get out, now I just walk right up to it with a cloth or a bottle and capture it and take it outside. I don't like to squash anything unless it's having a direct contact with my body, our quick reaction is the pain of the bite, so whatever is there when we go to scratch is a goner.
Same thing with mice, had the same dreaded fear of hearing scratching noises over top of my bed or where ever, kept me up for hours. Prayed earnestly so I could sleep, most times I prayed myself to sleep. Finally got delivered over that Praise God. Hearing a scratching sound now actually is a bit soothing, those little guys are here for a purpose.
As for Mosquitoes, they don't seem to like city life, or the pollution drives them away. On occasion during the evening we might get one or two, but in the country it's a buffet for them.
Spiders would be the thing that I avoid. Not the spider itself, but their web making. I walk right into a web almost daily during the summer time, they love to weave their work right in front of the garage door.
I hate spiders too.From the littlest to the biggest. I have had this fear since being a young kid,I am 38 now. If I even see a picture of one, I get cold chills through my body and immediately turn away.If someone would feel led to pray for this fear to be healed in me, boy..let me tell you, my wife and children would all thank you!! Especially those ugly tarantulas!!

That's good! When I was there, we braced ourselves for a multitude scattering everywhere whenever we came in at night and flipped on the light switch. They would crawl on you in your sleep, and leave droppings all over your dishes.
And you never left a bag of potato chips out in the open...
After trying several extreme tactics, we eventually did get rid of them...which probably meant that the surrounding units had extra.;-)

It is really in how you choose to see them. I see them as God's creatures and as having a purpose. It is in our fear of them that the problem arises for the only thing that we are to fear is God.
I once let a tarantula walk on my hand. Did you know that they have little suction cups on the bottom of their feet? It was a most interesting sensation.

Since the Lord got a hold of my heart I have even a greater affinity for His creatures - for I view them as truly being His.
I guess I've yet to come to a conclusion concerning the sovereignty of God with getting eaten alive by 1,000,000 mosquitoes.

Whenever I attend an outing with friends or family, I'm the only one that the bugs like to eat...
I remember before I was saved, I was at the beach with my girlfriend, and I kept asking her if she felt anything... like bugs biting her. She looked at me as if I was crazy, and said no... So I figured I must have been imagining things.
When we were leaving, we got to the walkway where there was some decent lighting... I think I had at least 50+ bites on my legs.

Don't frown, just ask the Lord to show you the way - and then believe that He will.
EDIT: The other night I got a really big fly in my room - he was very noisy. I told the Lord "You know I only have a few hours to sleep Lord, would you please take care of that fly?" The Lord was faithful - I never heard from the fly again and I slept like a baby.

Then some time ago, my mind thought on this "parable" if you will. [i]The kingdom of darkness is like cockroaches that scatter from the light of the true gospel.

JESUS was in the wilderness with wild beasts (mark 1:13), and only GOD knows what other creatures for 40 days and nights. Man! I'd be praying for GOD to get rid of the bugs!
Honestly though I pray that our passion for Him will over ride any fear of man, bugs, Satan, or anything else. :-)

The rest of the story is that I was in the UK and needed to get up at 3:00am in order to get to the airport in time to fly home to America. For about the last year I have been relying upon the Lord to wake me up and have discontinued the use of my alarm clock. It was a real struggle for me to have the faith that He would "be able" to awaken me after only 3 hours sleep - and then with the added annoyance of the fly . . .
Of course He is able to do all things well and is faithful to those that believe. He awakened me at 2:50am so that I would even have some devotional time before I finished getting ready.

One of my sisters was always a "mosquito magnet" or "bee magnate" while we were growing up. My mom used to say that it was because she was so "sweet." It turns out that my mom was correct. The level of attraction shown by certain bugs to human beings comes down to a chemical ("nonanal") that some people tend to release much more of than other people. It is typically released when people sweat. Bees are attracted to the "sweet" smell of this chemical -- incorrectly assuming that this person is a flower. Flies associate the chemical with sweet fruit. Mosquitoes and other blood sucking bugs (like ticks and fleas) associate this chemical with animals who contain blood.
Of course, this isn't anything that a nice can of OFF insect repellent (with DEET) can't help. The active ingredient, DEET, masks and diminishes the magnitude of the Nonanal so that mosquitos (and other blood sucking bugs) think that the person is a plant. It diminishes the "sweet" smell to bees and flies as well.
As for the roaches...I would simply call the local pest-control company at the first sign of roaches. They can carry bacteria and they also exhibit chemicals that hurt people with allergies.
And, of course, pray.

Got that handled already. Called a size 11 steel toed boot. Clean ups a little messy though. :-D

Too funny! I guess that is the "one roach at a time" approach. I think that I would prefer to get rid of them all with a sudden, righteous indignation!
