Serving God in the Flesh vs. Serving Him in the Spirit

S

As an obvious war we have as Christians, and many not paying much attention to, I thought I might bring up a helpful topic as to what it is to serve and worship in spirit and in truth as opposed to Christians trying to serve God with their flesh. I know it is a battle that every Christian must face, but I think we face it all too little and even deny that our tendency is to serve Him in fleshly wisdom, human strength, and to our own self-glory. The Lord must apply the Cross to all three of these to make us useful to the Master. A carnal Christian is no threat to the enemy nor a help towards God's eternal purpose. The only ones Satan is scared of that moves heaven and shakes hell are the "crucified Christans" that pray for God's desires and have died to their own.

Not only is a 'carnal Christian' not a threat, there is no such thing as a carnal Christian.

Romans 8v7, 'Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.'

Then again, people have different definitons of what the word carnal means. But taken in context in the scriptures, it speaks of those who live according to the flesh.

So to live according to the flesh, and to claim to be a Christian, cannot co-exist.

1. And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

1 Corinthians 3.1-3

Guess all that's left now is that we toss a coin.
