Features and Suggestions For SermonIndex.net

sermonindex Dec 6, 2009

Saints,

If you have any suggestions, features you would like on sermonindex.net please post it here. They will all be considered and really sermonindex.net is here to serve you.

It has been also a great help in the past when brothers and sisters suggested ways things could be done better. Obviously some changes technically could be harder then it seems and not feasible. But it doesn't hurt to suggest anything.

One thought I had was to interview speakers and feature the interview in audio on the website and also in text transcribed and "in" the old paths magazine. This is something I wanted to see happen years ago and perhaps its time to see this happen.

I miss the old search function a lot, when one could search by poster, date and so on. I think some kind of enhanced search function could be very useful, dont know if it is possible and so on, if i remember right the old one was causing problems on the site, but a fully functional one would be very good and wanted.

I agree about the search thingy. The SI google search is pretty good, but there is no link from SI's front page to go there. If it's recently be installed, disregard this post.

I agree. Google search is helpful, but nothing can beat an internal search function that allows you to identify specifics: Poster, date, Topic, Search String, etc. Thank you in andvance! :-)

any other thoughts and ideas other then the obvious need for a good search feature?

I miss the random article and random photo feature - also the Old Paths picture on the front page. If you only knew how the Holy Spirit used these to admonish, correct and direct - it was amazing.

Oh the agony of having Finney stare me down after I made an inappropriate post! And then there was the "readers prison" . . .

Hi. I really miss the "next page" feature at the bottom of the thread, having to scroll up to the top to go to the next page gets tiring at times when reading through a long thread. :-) Thank you for your consideration.

I would like it to be easier to find a named sermon by a named speaker.

The suggestion I make for this, would be to have the letters of the alphabet under the numbers at the foot of the screen page.

I realise this is an inexact science for the most part, but, if say (at least one and) up to a total of four alphabet letters were programmed to stay linked to the page on which they begin, I could find myself very forgiving over the guesswork required for the rest of the alphabetically indexed sermons!

The four letters I suggest are A, E, M and S, (which are roughly quarters of a dictionary).

Alternatively, instead of page numbers, there could be alphabet letters, and if there was more than one page for that letter, simply have the same letter again, until the next letter begins.

Great suggestions keep them coming saints. You can also suggest things towards other ideas for sermonindex other then just the sermon downloads.

ie video sermons, photos, discussion boards, old paths magazine. etc

This is petty :-o

but I would like to see the number of pages under Zac Poonen go to a second row! It is getting to 50 and more pages and the white portion of the web page is enlarging itself sideways!

2. And I always liked how you posted who had just registered with SI along with the date.

God bless you brother, I know you work hard on this site and it looks that way! If I knew any html/ or whatever you use, I'd offer to help you! ;-)

Thank you for your suggestions. I will put this one on the immediate to-do list. thank you!

I pray that things remain simple and straight forward . . .

Two suggestions:

1) On the main page under "Recent Discussions in the Forums": Please list the past 15 (instead of 10) posts in the forums.

2) When a discussion thread exceeds one page, please put a Goto page ( 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 Next Page ) at the BOTTOM of the page so I don't have to scroll to the top. And telling me that hitting the HOME button does the same thing as scrolling to the top, while true, is still irritating.

Christmas blessings to one and all!

When I first came to SI, I missed having a forum list on every page (including a Search funtion), in a drop down menu, by which to move to my next point of interest, rather than having to come out through the general link at the top of the page to move to another forum. I'm not sure if such a drop-down menu would be wasteful of memory, but it would definitely save time.

An alphabetical, searchable index of all thread titles might be useful, esp if they could be separated out into the forum where they were posted, or, one could search for a poster who took part in that thread, so as to limit the number of threads to search within.

Really, I would like an properly accurate keyword search which could search either the written material you have provided, or, search the threads.

It would be a treat to be able to search for a quote someone has added to thread (by a classic author), separately from the articles you have stored by them.

Thank you.

Hi everyone.

This weekend I had an idea about the forums.

It has been mentioned before that the forums are meant to augment or supplement the resources available on the site.

The thought was to create a section in the forums for speakers(I think just now that something like this existed at one time?).

One permanent thread could exist to mention appropriate information about the speaker and then other threads could be created by users to discuss particular sermons and messages given by that speaker.

Have the admins considered mentioning what "Ad Hominem" and "Straw Man" arguments are in the forum requirements and etiquette?
