Many years ago radio commentators read this on his show, I thought it would good to revisit it. It has to do with an injury suffered by a man and his explaination to the insurance company following his initial report to them.
"Try in to do the job alone"
I am writing in response to your request for additional information. In block #3
of the accident report form I put, "trying to do the job alone", as the cause of
my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more fully. I trust
the following details shall be sufficient.
I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on
the roof of a new six-story building. When I completed my work, I discovered that
I had about 500 pounds of brick left over. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand,
I decided to lower them down in a barrel by using a pulley that was fortunately
attached to the side of the building at the sixth floor. Securing the rope at ground
level, I went up to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the brick into it.
Then I went back to the ground and untied the rope, holding it tightly to ensure a
slow desent of the 500 pounds of brick (you will note in block #2 of the accident report
form that I weigh 135 pounds).
Due to my surprise of being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of
mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rapid rate up
the side of the building. In the vicinity of the third floor, I metthe barrel coming down
(this explains the fractured skull and broken collarbone). Slowed only slightly, I
continued my rapid assent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two
knuckles deep in the pulley, fortunately by this time I had regained my presence of
mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope in spite of my pain. At approximately
the same time, however, the barrel of bricks hit the ground, and the bottom fell out
of the barrel. Devoid of the weight of the bricks, the barrel now weighed approximately
50 pounds. Again I refer you to my weight in block #2.
As you might imagine, I began a rather rapid desent downthe side of the building. In the
vicinity of the third floor, I again met the barrel coming up (this accounts for my 2
fractured ankles abd the lacerations on my legs and lower body). The encounter with the
barrel slowed me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell on the pile of bricks.
Fornunately, only 3 vertebra were cracked.
I am sorry to report, however, as I lay there on the bricks, in pain, unable to stand and
watching the empty barrel six stories above, I again lost my presence of mind and let
go of the rope, so it came back down and broke both legs.
I hope I have furnished the information you required as to how the accident occurred.
It was because "I WAS TRYING TO DO THE JOB ALONE"!
Now this was a funny little story to say this; on this site for a good many years there have been many who are bitter with the church and have bowed out of all organized anything that has to do with the various body functions. Some have been deeply bruised or wounded, to you there's a promise from the Lord: Mat 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
This will be the year of your healing if you, like Job, pray for thoughs who hurt you.
To many of you who refuse to let go of that defiling bitterness, you hurt others with that poison and you need to repent. Heb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
To those of you this year, the Lord will open up oppurtunities of ministries and usefulness the likes of which you can only imagine, exceedingly abundantly above and beyond anything you can even imagine.
