[b]THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
[i]"Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body."
As Christ broke the bread at the Last Supper, so Jesus was broken upon the cross. His body was horribly ripped and mangled, and at last He cried out, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" or "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?" (Mark 27:46) The demands of God's wrath were met.
As Jesus was crucified, our flesh, "with its affections and lusts," must be crucified. (Gal. 5:24) Like bread, your will must be broken to that of the Lord's. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness." (1 Peter 2:24)
