Is it for his life only? Isn't that the purpose & will of God for our lives? That we should be men & women of God, totally owned by God (purchased by the precious Blood of Jesus), standing as God's representatives (bright shining lights in this dark world) even as the prophets stood for God in the days of Israel's declension, and carrying with us always the fragrance of Christ!

With all our hearing and presuming to know God, are we really 'men & women of God'?
Either, we are men and women of God or of satan, but not both.
But to the degree that we are men and women of God is what I believe you are refering to.
As for the quote, I had never heard of it until now.

Enid, we can be believers and yet NOT be men of God. I believe the phrase 'man of God' has a depth and significance which very few believers comprehend.

Better yet we should meditate on Scripture which is the original truth. You can quote any man, woman, or 'church'.... and even if it is derived from Scripture, it can never take its place. We are mandated by Scripture to meditiate on it, not the regurgitation of it by a person's quote. I'm not against reading or observing quotes, there is much wisdom in some, but I won't 'meditate' on what man says, I'll obey the Scripture mandate and meditiate on it.
Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'meditation'. What I meant was that we should have 'pondered' over this rare quote for personal & permanent benefit.

Well, surprisingly it came from Holland. The speaker was a missionary & a 'man of God' speaking to a group of Dutch believers. He signed himself C.R.G.

Well, you know there are very small groups of believers in Europe. In fact, Europe as a whole is spiritually dead, barring of course certain 'living churches' in parts of East Europe.

So you must of been there when it was given otherwise how do you know

Pollux, As for Europe being spiritually dead i don't think they are any more so then other places in the world. I think that you will find true believers from many different parts of the world who love the Lord very deeply:)

A believer is one who is indwelt by eternal life, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, indwelt by the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a matter of having eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
One may profess to be a Christian, but he is not necessarily a believer. There are many who have doctrine, have intellectual knowledge, but lack 'newness of life' in Christ Jesus.

Pride feeds self and we must die to self. Jesus is the only answer, walking with Him daily and submitting our lives to Him is the answer. For a long time I really struggled with pride but the Lord has really shown me how to humble myself with others. I am learning that I don't always have to be the one with all the answers and I am not always right.

i. One who is totally owned by God, one who is His purchased possession, purchased by the Blood of Jesus. We must have the sense that we belong to God, we are His property. Everything is to be consecrated to Him.
ii. One who is God's representative in any situation, declaring by his presence and his words that he stands for God, speaks for God, and is an ambassador of Christ.
iii. One who carries a divine something about him, a special fragrance, the fragrance of Christ. As the woman of Shunem noted about Elisha, so others (and especially sensitive believers) will 'perceive' that this one is a man of God. 2 Kings 4.9. As Paul stated, we must carry the fragrance of Christ, 2 Corinthians 2.14,15
