Righteousness?

A

1 John 3:10 "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."

What is it to do righteousness?

When we are born again; we receive a new nature,
which is the nature of GOD. This new nature
works to cause us to desire to become more like
HIM. Since GOD is righteous and HE makes us
righteous through the perfect obedience of His
Son; we should desire and thirst for righteousness!!

Yes, we are born again and new creatures in Christ. Praise God! Now how is it that we do righteousness?

By keeping His Word and obeying His truth !!

We do not receive a new nature, we become partakers of the divine natuer & holiness.

When we do righteousnesse (1John 3:7) are actually partaking or sharing in God's nature (2Peter 1:4) which is the same as partaking of his holiness (Hebrews 12:10)

Don't get it backward; the partaking is not the cause of our actions, but our actions are the cause of our partaking.

We are not made righteous through "the perfect Jesus' obedience", but through our obedience (1John 3:7).
That obedience is faith (Rom 4:3) with repentance to prove the faith (James 2:24)

Not that our obedience saves us, but it proves our faith which God reckons us as righteous.
That which saves us is the relationship with Christ (John 17:3)

This is an analogy that might help. Righteousness is the root, we are like the tree, holiness is the fruit. When we "do" righteousness, we are acting out of the root of who we are. We have been made righteous. Actions that come out of this righteousness are "works" of righteousness. If righteousness is the root, then doing righteousness is the fruit.

Hmmm! Maybe this boils down to. "What sojourner7 said."
