Over the last 6 months a lot of not so good things have happened concerning the youth group at my church. (I do worship for the youth group.) Especially the leadership.
The youth "pastor" (he was never trained) was asked by the church board to take a "sabbatical" for 3 months from teaching the youth group. He had been leading the youth group for... 5 years I think, but wasn't doing a very good job. In the 2 years we've been at this church none of the youth have changed at all. When the parents found out about his, umm... lax attitude towards the youth group they freaked out and went to the board. The board then asked him to take the sabbatical. But they lied to him because they really didn't want him to come back at all. They were hoping he would "see that he isn't suited for the youth" and step down.
He has decided not to come back and teach the youth. However, now they have no one to teach the youth. The lady who is teaching during the sabbatical didn't want to do it. Her husband said they would and left it to her. So she doesn't want to continue.
Our youth group consists of 5-8 girls. All of them are caught up in the world and none of them are even sure they're saved. It really grieves my heart to see these young girls (ages are between 13-17) with so much potential not being taught how to live for the Lord and use that potential.
I do not believe there is anyone in our church who is suited to teach a youth group. And definitely no one who is interested. I am praying that God would bring someone new into our church who has a passion for Him and for youth.
So if you could pray that God would give us a good youth pastor and that he would changes the girls' hearts and give them a passion for Him, I would appreciate it greatly. When I try to talk to the girls about going deeper with the Lord, it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall. And it is really frustrating. Sometimes I just want to give up. So yeah, prayer would be great.
