Turn your computer into a missionary!!!

If you go to the website, you can read about many wonderful changes that God is making in lives by simply having access to God's Word in audio.

I was downloading a NT in Mam (a Guatamalan language) for some friends here in the USA who learned that language first in life. I discovered a wonderful new ministry opportunity that they have. A person can download audio New Testaments to his computer through "Audio Bible Ambassador". Once you have a NT downloaded in another language, your computer can be used as a place from which others can download Bibles to their computers. It even shows a world map of where others have downloaded portions of scripture from your computer.

All you have to do is leave your computer hooked up to the internet, and 24/7 it is providing scriptures for people in other countries. Those of us who have high speed internet could REALLY help some poor people in other lands who would love to have a copy of God's word.

Just a suggestion, but you would probably do well to not use your personal computer for this task. It would be more efficient to spend $5 a month and host such on a web server somewhere.

1) Your personal computer has a lot less bandwidth available upstream, even if you have DSL or a Cable modem. This will especially prove to be true if you have several people downloading at once.

2) There are some major security issues with using your PC as a file server. You open yourself to some issues that are possibly bigger than what Norton or McAffee can help you with.

The designers of this program well understood the fact that personal computers have a small bandwidth. The program was designed with that fact in mind. The goal is to build an infrastructure of personal computers to share small portions at a time. The more willing participants that get involved the faster God's Word will be distributed to the most needy on the planet.

There have been security issues with some file sharing programs just like there are security issues with ANY activity on the internet. When a major internet based ministry develops a program it seeks out the safest way to implement the program as FCBH has done in this case.

A lady at my work is married to an internet security specialist who flies all over the USA for major companies such as Microsoft and others. He uses a file sharing program that works with the same file-sharing structure that FCBH uses.

I am so thankful that Brother Greg never let such fears keep him from establishing SI. I refuse to let fear cause me to bury my talent.

Good to know. And I'm not talking about fear, I'm just saying, there are realistic practical considerations. It's not a matter if somebody will attempt to hack your computer, it's simply a matter of what do you plan on doing when they try to do so.
