Broken Heart

"Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow...Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose." - Psalm 25:4 & 12[sigh] I post this with a broken heart, with much thought and much prayer. I would hope that I could confidently proclaim that God has been doing a new work in my heart recently. My desire is to seek after and know the truth, partcipate in true fellowship, stand up for what's right and good, be formed, conformed, and transformed by the working of the Holy Spirit, to strive to be more Christ-like, and most of all, draw closer and more in love with my God.I'm afraid in the process, especially this weekend after much searching the Scriptures and reading through several doctrinaly related books, I have forsaken love and unity. I have taken the side of man's thoughts rather than seeking to be on the side of God. My motives and intentions were good, but the enemy has taken this and twisted it so that I find myself set against some of my brothers and sisters. Whether it's for the reason of doctrinal differences or judging other's spirituality based on outward show and expression. For this I ask for God's forgiveness. My heart breaks over this division I started becoming a part of and that I see my brothers and sisters getting in to. God forgive us! May He forgive me for letting my eyes gaze more on and my mind be formed more by man rather than God Himself. God rid us of this pride that divides! I want to seek after a love that does not separate man from God or brother from sister. Anything that does, may I quickly cast it aside! Let me not be a hindrance! May I not be puffed up in the head, but edify with love. Forgive me!"... Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him." - 1 Corinthians 8:1b-3"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God. And other people will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up." - Romans 14:17-19

Sister Yodi,Sounds like you're having what i call "a David moment"Pss.51[1] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.[2] Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.[3] For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.[4] Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.[5] Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.[6] Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.[7] Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.[8] Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.[9] Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.[10] Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.[11] Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.[12] Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.[13] Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.[14] Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.[15] O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.[16] For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.[17] The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. It's my experience that everytime i come to an ending of myself which is uasually very painful, it's always the onset of His continuation in me ... You know, where He says its not by our might, or by our power, but by His Spirit ... Sounds like to me sister Yodi, by your travailing post, that you're already on the right track ... Donny Mc Clurkin sings of we children of God, "We fall down, but we get up" ... By the power of repentant confession, and He being faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, we can then confess our sin one before the other, and allow His Spirit to right the wrong(s) both in and thru us ...Bless God that we have a High Priest in heaven that can, an is touched by our infirmaties, and loves us anyway, especially when we come repentant before Him with "a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart" ... Amen '0)

Hey thanks, Rahman. I was looking for that Psalm. I know it... I just came across Psalm 25 instead.[slight laugh] Being extreme sometimes is bad. I don't know what got into me. I usually put love before head knowledge. But God is faithful and sovereign. I know that I don't want zeal without compassion or knowledge without love. God is good to steer me back on the right path."The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand." - Psalm 37:23-24

I know you are submitting much to His hands molding and changing you into His image. But be comforted its not an overnight process for we go glory to glory, faith to faith, till we reach a perfect man (woman). I am amazed at how much you know and your knoweldge of Scripture, its an encouraging thing it really is. From meeting brothers and sisters that share in the life that is in Jesus I was opened to the fact of love for the saints and brethren as I have never felt it before. I do believe as you are saying love is over all doctrinal disputes that are not to the core of our redemption in Christ. "Love covers a multitude of sins". What you are sharing hit me pretty hard for I have been shown the same thing during the last 2-3 weeks in my life and God has been dealing with my heart in that degree. Doctrines and books arent bad and we should study to show ourselves approved. I will be praying for you the prayer I am praying for myself that I would be molded into the image of Jesus continually in words or actions. Ahh to have a love relationship with Jesus Christ that exceels all else. Christ be paramount in our lifes.

Sister Yodi,This part of your post made me laugh;Quote;"[slight laugh] Being extreme sometimes is bad. I don't know what got into me". i find it's usually by passing the love of Christ and secumbing to our frustration with the status quo ... but i laughed because being "extreme" (in each our own ways) seems to me a collective quality that the majority of us share on SI ... Personally, it's in my nature/charachter to be dramatic too, which apart from our Lord's use can also be a problem ...i'm not trying to make excuses for our getting out of hand from time to time, and i say this in jest, but i really do believe that in some instances God is a lot more pleased in having to tone us down, instead of always having to tune us up ... '0)We all got to keep on running this race to the end sis! ... cramps and all ...

"[slight laugh] Being extreme sometimes is bad. I don't know what got into me". I was reading Passion and Purity by Elizabeth Elliot and actually finished it last night.. what a book! Her spiritual insights into the life of Christ are remarkable. She went to a college in Alberta, Canada that was founded by L.E. Maxwell a good keswick speaker, book writer and his audio files are on this site. She states that he used to repeat over and over again to the students: "The hardest thing in the Christian life....." and would have the students always finish "is BALANCE." That spoke to me and its very true I believe. One thing I always say is that I aim to put the emphasis where God puts the emphasis in the bible but at the same time I realize how far I miss that mark and push or talk about something or some small issue out of proportion of the rest of Scriptures and spiritual life in Christ.

May 22nd. NOW THIS EXPLAINS IT "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us." John 17:21If you are going through a solitary way, read John 17, it will explain exactly why you are where you are - Jesus has prayed that you may be one with the Father as He is. Are you helping God to answer that prayer, or have you some other end for your life? Since you became a disciple you cannot be as independent as you used to be. The purpose of God is not to answer our prayers, but by our prayers we come to discern the mind of God, and this is revealed in John 17. There is one prayer God must answer, and that is the prayer of Jesus - "that they may be one, even as We are One." Are we as close to Jesus Christ as that? God is not concerned about our plans; He does not say - Do you want to go through this bereavement; this upset? He allows these things for His own purpose. The things we are going through are either making us sweeter, better, nobler men and women; or they are making us more captious and fault-finding, more insistent upon our own way. The things that happen either make us fiends, or they make us saints; it depends entirely upon the relationship we are in to God. If we say - "Thy will be done," we get the consolation of John 17, the consolation of knowing that our Father is working according to His own wisdom. When we understand what God is after we will not get mean and cynical. Jesus has prayed nothing less for us than absolute oneness with Himself as He was one with the Father. Some of us are far off it, and yet God will not leave us alone until we are one with Him, because Jesus has prayed that we may be. -Oswald Chambers

Nice! Thanks for sharing. Is this from "My Utmost For His Highest"? I have that devotional. I keep meaning to take it off my shelf and go through it in the morning. I got it quite a few Christmases ago from my aunt. And that was awesome what was said about prayer; not getting our will done, but finding what the will of God is. I'm not trying to promote a guy here or even a certain church, but Chuck Smith wrote a good, simple book on prayer http://www.calvarychapel.com/library/smith-chuck/books/epl.htm If that link works, you should be able to read "Effective Prayer Life" online.God's mercies are new EVERY morning. God is so faithful to give us second chances!

I got it quite a few Christmases ago from my aunt.Yes its from that book by Oswald Chambers! I was going to recommend you check it out, but you have it so God is good! The whole purpose of that devotional is to know God (period). Brother Craig actually referred me to 8 devotional segements on 'wisdom' and the one I posted above was one that impacted me very much and I thought I would share. And that was awesome what was said about prayer; not getting our will done, but finding what the will of God is. In the introduction this his book the first line reads:"Today, we are living in desperate times. Yet, the Church is not desperate before God in prayer." - Chuck SmithI am hooked and will be checking this book out more, its nice to be able to read it online. Thanks for the good recommendation Yolanda.

I do find computers very valuable tools but I have got to the stage in life where 'fast-in' usually goes with 'faster-out'.

Here it is you guys!!!My Utmost for His Highestby Oswald Chambersjournal entry by Yolanda DiehlThe Key to the MissionaryOctober 14th"All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." MATTHEW 28:18-19The basis of missionary appeals is the authority of Jesus Christ, not the needs of the heathen. We are apt to look upon Our Lord as One Who assists us in our enterprises for God. Our Lord puts Himself as the absolute sovereign supreme Lord over His disciples. He does not say the heathen will be lost if we do not go; He simply says -- "Go ye therefore and teach all nations." Go on the revelation of My sovereignty; teach and preach out of a living experience of Me."Then the eleven disciples went... unto a mountain where Jesus had appointed them" (v. 16). If I want to know the universal sovereignty of Christ, I must know Him for myself, and how to get alone with Him; I must take time to worship the Being Whose Name I bear. "Come unto Me" -- that is the place to meet Jesus. Are you weary and heavy laden? How many missionaries are! We banish those marvelous words of the universal Sovereign of the world to the threshold of an after-meeting; they are the words of Jesus to His disciples."Go ye therefore..." Go simply means live. Acts 1:8 is the description of how to go. Jesus did not say -- Go into Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, but, "Ye shall be witnesses unto Me" in all these places. He undertakes to establish the goings."If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you..." -- that is the way to keep going in our personal lives. Where we are placed is a matter of indifference; God engineers the goings."None of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself..." That is how to keep going till we're gone.MY UTMOST...The point of missions is not for the people but for God. Like in Paris Reidhead's sermon "Ten Shekels and a Shirt", salvation isn't for the happiness of man, but for the glory of God. And salvation is not for what we'll get out of it, but what He'll get out of it. And then like Jim Elliot said in his sermon "The Feeding of the 5,000", it's not the work of Jesus that's important, but the person of Jesus. It's all about getting to know Him more.
