Resources Documenting Historical Revivals

I am possibly starting a cell group at my church that is in the same spirit of this ministry: to promote/seek historical/biblical revival in one's own personal life and community. In this group that I might lead up, I wish to do a little surveying of past revivals, and seek to engage the group in a practical application of what we can glean from history. While I have a general knowledge of church history, and historic revival, I would like to fine-tune my knowledge of these events.

Could anybody recommend some books as a resource that seek to document historical revivals? Ideally, the resources should be somewhat scholarly. They should definitely be serious. Whatever the case, I would like some books that are of high caliber. And by that, I don't mean "Why Revival Tarries." Which, while an excellent book, is not what I'm looking to focus on.

I don't think "every" person that might attend this cell group will be "scholarly," and I'm not saying dumb it down! But you might want to present it differently than as a scholarly group but you don't want to lie to them either!!! (huge grin)

I always enjoyed [url=https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/myvideo/viewcat.php?cid=16]J. Edwin Orr videos[/url]! You could download them and put them on DVD's and give out to those who wanted to watch them at home so you could save discussion times for the group setting.

And you could even download Leonard Ravenhill's 1 and a half interview and watch it in 15 or 20 minute increments! That's probably all they could take!!

You know, one of the best cell groups I ever attended had about 15-20 (they said it was too large) but we all were family, we were honest and very real with each other. WE always had dinner and took about 45 minutes to eat and talk as a group or whatever the group leader had in mind. He washed our feet once (very humbling) and we had communion a couple of times. I would forgo church at times but make sure I made the cell group!! I miss those people and that group.

I want it to be scholarly for my personal purposes, not theirs. I'll digest the scholarship, and teach from there :-)

Much thanks for the book recommendations and links. I definitely will look into getting the Revival Fires and Akaenings. I also found brother Greg's "Fire Fell" very very helpful. I had no idea he had published such a thing before.

Please be in prayer for this idea that I think the Lord gave me to have this community/cell group at my churh. I hope to use "Why Revival Tarries" as the study book and primary discussion piece for this group, and use some of these more detailed histories as supplemental material from which to draw from.

For revival theology and dynamics i would recommend,Jonathan Edwards, A treatice Conserning religious Affections and Charles G. Finney's, Lectures on the revival of Religion.

From the hystorical perspective, J. Edwin Orr books i think are the most detailed on revivals and Revival Fires of Wesley Duwel is good for a summary of all the most important historical revivals. Also Winkey Pratney wrote a book called Revival, Principals to change the world, i think is helpful.

E.H. Broadbent "The pilgrim church". I read it in Bible school. Does a good job of convering revivals and church history especially those outside the orthodox churches.
