Should making disciples be forced?

S

Matthew 28:19

I'm not sure how to phrase the question. There's a guy who I lead to the Lord a year ago and my ministry leader is forcing me to go get him and call him and show up at his house and so on and so forth. (he hasn't been to church in a long time) Constantly calling him and being aggresive.

The guy doesn't call me back. My question is should there be a connection between me and the person or should i leave them alone because they are full of excuses or is there a line when you stop reaching out?

Have you been praying for this person to
find grace to return to the LORD??
If you are not willing to do this in love;
how are you willing to serve GOD?
If you won't reach out to this person for
Christ's sake; then who will ??

No your right. And I do pray for him but I guess the question is when do you stop calling somebody after they have expressed in actions that there not making an effort anymore?

I think you just have to let the Lord lead you in that. If you are praying for this person then just ask God what His heart for you in the situation is and let that guide your actions:) I do understand that there may come a time when God calls you to walk away and turn this person over to Him. I think if you are just in prayer God will show you if and when that time comes.

If the man is unresponsive, I would stop calling him. I assume he has your number of he reconsiders. Continuing calling someone could just harden them towards you. He knows you and knows the message, you can't obey for him.

I agree the gate is narrow just enough room to fit one person at a time and so its ultimately the persons choice to go through that gate. Its the same for the person to walk on the narrow path. If I were you I would pick up a copy of pilgrim's progress to understand this a little better and if the Lord leads to hand a copy to the guy you are trying to "disciple", Marks of a disciple are dying to self, obedience, and Love. If this man shows no interest in doing any of those things then that is good indication that the man didn't ever actually recieve Christ or fully understood the implications of salvation. If this be the case pray that the Lord Awaken his heart to his lostness.

God Bless,
Matthew

I personally see two sides to this coin. First, you cannot force someone to go where they don't want. Christianity is about conversion not coercion. It is willing and voluntary.

However, do you stop reaching out? No, but your reaching and contacts need to be in harmony with Jesus and the apostles. Study their techniques. Jesus never stops reaching out, but only the willing grab his hand.
