I want an unexplainable Joy

R
Richard365 Apr 30, 2010

I'm not sure how to put into words what I've been feeling. I've felt like something's missing and I just don't have the kind of joy I should have. I talked to the Lord about it last night and I'm waiting for an answer.

I've been a "Christian" for many years...but have just begun to really understand the true meaning of being a disciple over the last 3 years. He's shown me so many truths and even delivered me of my porn addiction; praise God. But I just don't see a true joy in my heart projected outwardly for others to see. I know that from my heart my mouth will speak, but there's not much coming from my mouth. I asked the Lord if I had an unbelieving heart or if my love for Him is not true. I want to know what I'm doing wrong.

In my heart I know to look upon Jesus as my forerunner and my example of how to live on earth...and I know that Jesus never felt depressed, anxious, without joy, ect...so what am I missing? And the answer comes to mind...Grace.

I know there's something wrong with me when things of God don't stir up in my heart an unexplainable joy that bubbles out from my mouth. My daughter might mention something or ask a question about Jesus and my heart doesn't jump out of my chest...does that make sense? My wife may tell me something about her day or something that was exciting to her and I just sit there like a stick in the mud.

I just don't know what my deal is. I'm naturally a quiet guy who is very intraverted. I work grave yard shift...so maybe that plays a factor in my attitude. I just don't know. I want that fragerance of Christ about me. I want someone to know I'm different within the first minutes of meeting me. I want a joy that makes others smile and wonder why I'm so happy.

I know if the Lord can remove a sinful desire such as internet porn and provide me the grace to fight off the temptation...that surely He can transplant an unexplainable Joy in its place.

Thanks Brothers and Sisters in advance for your thoughts.

God Bless.

Your joy will come from helping, ministering,
and serving others selflessly. The only joy
we have is joy that is shared.

Brother you honesty is refreshing.

Joy is the product of being in His presence:

Psa. 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.

Psa 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me [with thy] free spirit.

Pro 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [is it]!

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

I have found a distinct relationship between leaving my first love and lack of joy. Also it seems to be hindered by my lack of thankfulness. When I am constantly thankful and rejoicing in all things I walk in joy.

1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

The more I praise and rejoice and press into Him, the more joy I walk in. Obedience is also important to joy.

I felt the Lord told me to do a silly thing by mans way of thinking just recently. I woke up in the morning with the battle hymn of the republic going through my heart. Well later in the day when I went through walmart I felt the Lord prompting me to sing it at the top of my voice. Well I was a bit intimidated, but still I sang it out load, not low, the entire way through the store. Even though I was a bit chicken, I did it as an act of obedience, and the rest of the day, from that little act of obedience, I walked in joy.

God it calling His people to lay down their lives and take up their cross and follow Him. He is expecting us to go out as Abraham did, not knowing where he was going, but just trusting in the One who knows the way. Obedience is a big step towards joy. If we are holding anything back it will certainly limit the joy of the Lord. As Jesus, we must speak what He is speaking, do what He is doing, go where He is going and our joy will be full.

Praying for you to walk in joy brother.

Hi Richard, can I ask if you have ever been baptized in the Holy Spirit? Have you ever experienced the manifest presence of God? Meaning, have you been aware of His presence?

Act 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

Rom 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Rom 15:13 And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

1Th 1:6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, welcoming the Word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

Jud 1:24 Now to Him being able to keep you without stumbling, and to set you before His glory without blemish, with unspeakable joy;

Deu 4:29 But if you shall seek Jehovah your God from there, you shall find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Psa 16:11 You will make Me know the way of life; in Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Brother, He will be found by those who diligently seek Him , the reward is Himself.
Gen 15:1 After these things the Word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your shield and your exceeding great reward.

Thanks to those who responded to my post.

@Phanetheus...I was a bit confused in some areas of your response; maybe you could rephrase it for me...thank you.

@Appolus...You asked if I've been Baptized in the Holy Spirit. I'm not sure if your asking in terms of say, the Assemblies of God denominations idea of being Baptized in the Holy Spirit. That is the church a currently attend and they say speaking in tounges is the proof of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. I however dissagree. But to answer; I have not. I haven't even been baptised in water yet. It's been on my heart and plan to do so this summer. Maybe that's my problem, because Jesus was baptised in the Holy Spirit when he was baptised in water.

@Goldminer...You mentioned joy is a product of being in His presense. So I asked myself if I'm not in His presence. I know I have been...I know I've felt the Holy Spirit speak to me on several occasions. I've had "experiences" that have brought me to brokeness in some areas of my life. But I wonder where is this unexplainable joy that I should have.

It's so frustrating...and I know it's effecting my family as well. I'm not walking around like Eeyore from the Poo Bear cartoons, but I'm not beaming with joy and love like I know I can and should be.

Thanks for your prayers as well...God Bless. If you have more advice, I thank you for them.

Well I just wanted to touch on the Holy Spirit. I have given my testimony here before, but here is just a bit of it. When I got saved I cried bucket fulls in repentence. I had been a real mess. Then the folks who ministered to me asked if I wanted to receive the Holy Spirit. Well I had been totally ignorant of the things of God previously to getting saved, so I said yes. They prayed for me and said I received it, but I felt nothing. I went home and said to the Lord if this is really something you want me to have please fill me with the Holy Spirit. I continued to ask for 3 days constantly. Well on the third night I was sound asleep and all of a sudden I felt what felt like electricity surging through my body. I was sitting up in the bed with my arms out cross fashion and I was speaking in tongues. I scared my husband awake. It was the best day of my life.

For months afterwards I had this place in my chest that felt like a lump of love. It spilled out to everyone who got in my way. Almost everyone I knew got saved as the rivers of living water flowed through me. I can tell it is very real. My life has never been the same. Now the intensity of that time has subsided some after 33 years, but it certainly sealed me with the Lord, and I want more.

It is a very crucial part of walking in joy. I am sure of it.

Hi Richard,

There is a very certain and definite unspeakable joy in sharing the gospel. Different people may express their personal experience in a variety of terms, but when you look back at Paul's life, I (personally) believe that the 'joy' he experienced was as a direct result of his preaching.

I'm sure he shared his testimony a few times more than we have recorded in the New Testament, and may, also, have been unaware that sharing the gospel - in obedience to God's revelation to him as to what his ministry should contain (bearing in mind he had been trained as a Pharisee in the knowledge of the scriptures and teaching skills) - was the open faucet which invited joy to flood his being.

You may notice in the following verses, that there were repercussions of Paul's obedience, for other members of the Church:

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him [Ananias], Go thy way: for he [Saul] is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard [him] were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?

22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. 23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: 24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. 25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let [him] down by the wall in a basket. 26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him, and brought [him] to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. 28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem. 29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. 30 [Which] when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

I wroten this post a few months ago on JOy, it may be a blessing to some.........

THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH

Mat 25:21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

We see here that the Lord invites faithful servants into “The joy of the Lord.” What is the Joy of the Lord? Well the word for joy here is the Greek word khar-ah meaning fullness. And this is life eternal, that they might know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. God Himself is an encounter. A heart that has not been enraptured by love, is a heart that has not had an encounter with the Living God. Revival is encounter!

To enter into the Joy of the Lord, to walk in eternal life, is to walk in the knowledge of God. To know God is to fellowship with Him. It is a coming together, and intimate friendship, a love greater than that of a man for his wife or wife for her husband. It is nothing short of an encounter with the living God. When a man or a woman encounters the living God, when the Holy Spirit comes and brings revelation and illumination, then that one has an epiphany. The experience is multi-faceted. There are also times and seasons for how we are in our walk.

Let us read Neh chp 8 1-9.

Neh 8:1 And all the people gathered themselves as one man into the street before the water gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel.
Neh 8:2 And Ezra the priest brought the Law before the congregation, both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
Neh 8:3 And he read in it before the street in front of the Water Gate from the morning until noon, in front of the men and the women, and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people listened to the Book of the Law.
Neh 8:4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood which they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Neh 8:5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people. And when he opened it, all the people stood up.
Neh 8:6 And Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, amen, lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped Jehovah with their faces to the ground.
Neh 8:9 And Nehemiah, the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, This day is holy to Jehovah your God. Do not mourn or weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the Law

In Neh chp 8 we see that a solemn assembly has been called. The wall had been completed, the exiles had returned and now they would seek the face of God. Now, in the revival movement of today we recognize well the first nine verses of Nehamiah. The solemn assembly, the reading of Gods word and sermons, the falling on our faces with our faces in the dirt so to speak. In Nehamiah the people wept upon hearing the word of God, they wept upon being convicted of their sins, they wept when they realized how far they had wandered from a Holy God, they wept when they realized just how compromised they had become after years of living in Babylon. In our revival meetings one often witnesses such weeping, such repentance, such dismay at how far we seemed to have wandered from God. The reason is the same today as it was in Nehamiah’s time, the Spirit of conviction falls upon the people and their eyes are opened to their condition and the condition of the church. When we hear Gods law spoken, when we read of it, we can recognize that the law works death to those who violate it even in one part. It strikes terror into the heart. It is true that everyone who finds himself under the law finds himself under a curse, for cursed is the man who violates even one part of it. And so they wept, and so we weep today at our current condition. Yet , praise the Lord we are not under the curse of the Law. It is a good sign to see a tender heart, a broken and a contrite heart, yet even in the day of Nehamiah’s reading of the Word, we find that it was a feast day.

The seasons of God are good and their is a time for weeping and mourning. Yet, if that is all that we have, if we live forever in a perpetual winter of weeping and mourning, whether that is in our personal walk or in our ministries, then nothing will ever grow. We will not grow and neither will our ministries, they will not grow in the knowledge of God. Yes, there is conviction in the presence of God. There is a time to rent our clothes and throw dust on our heads, yet if this one season becomes the whole then we render ourselves weak in ineffectual. Our real strength comes in the Joy of the Lord. If we cannot put on a garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness then we will not stand in the evil day. We will be overcome by trial and tribulation and persecution. When the Israelites were captured and taken away from Jerusalem, their captors sat them down by the river of Babylon and taunted them. They said to them, lets hear your songs of Zion, your songs of victory now. And the Israelites, once famous for their songs of praise to God, hung their harps on the willow trees, unable to sing, overcome in spirit in their defeat. The enemy had not only robbed them of their earthly freedom, they had robbed them of their joy, they no longer had a song in the night. The willow tree represents sadness, weeping. Can you imagine how powerful it would have been if the Israelites, trusted in a mighty God to eventually redeem them. This would have been an exercise in faith, just as Abraham exercises when he stated to Isaac that God would provide the sacrifice, that he knew in his heart that even if Isaac were killed that God could raise him up again. This would have been the faith exercised by Job when he cried out that even if God killed him, yet would he trust him.

Can i ask you , have you hung your harps on the willow tree ? Has the state of the church, the state of the world got you in such a state that you cannot rejoice and trust in God. Has your mourning went on too long?Have you allowed the enemy to whisper into your ears “what can the righteous do when the foundations are destroyed?’ When our mourning and weeping go beyond that which has been called for, we will find ourselves in trouble. If our ministry becomes angry and cynical, even when there is good cause, and all we have left is anger and cynicism and no joy, then ultimately we will have nothing. But Frank, you do not know my personal circumstances, you have not seen what I have seen, you do not fully realize just how wicked the world is and what is happening in the church and to its people.

Act 16:23 And after laying on them many stripes, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailor to keep them safely;
Act 16:24 who, having received such a command, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks.
Act 16:25 And toward midnight Paul and Silas prayed and praised God in a hymn. And the prisoners listened to them.
Act 16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken.

And immediately all the doors were opened and all the bonds were loosened. In the very bowels of the dungeon , Paul and Silas prayed to and praised God. You see, they did not hang their harps upon the willow tree and all the prisoners observed this. And suddenly God moved and He moved mightily and when He did then all the prison doors were opened and all those in bondage were loosed. You see the children of God sitting by the rivers of Babylon in defeat and unable to raise their voices in praise were a type. They of course were led into captivity and exile and Paul and Silas and their jailor were gloriously freed and bondage’s were broken. Do you see the power of Joy in the Lord in action? Can you see the effect of putting on a garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness? We can see this down through the corridors of time. We see the same Joy of the Lord in every Martyr who sung Psalms of praise in the very depths of their captivity and destruction of their earthly tents. I never get tired of this very Spirit displayed by a saint in a dungeon called Algerius………………

In a dark hole I have found pleasure; in a place of bitterness and death, rest and hope of salvation; in the abyss or depths of hell, joy; where others weep, I have laughed; where others fear, I have found strength; who will believe this? In a state of misery I have had very great delight; in a lonely corner I have had most glorious company, and in the severest bond, great rest. All these things, my fellow brethren in Jesus Christ, the gracious hand of God has given me. Behold, He that at first was far from me, is now with me, and Him whom I knew but a little, I now see clearly; to whom I once looked from afar, Him I now behold as present; He for whom I longed, now offers me His hand; He comforts me; He fills me with joy; He drives from me bitterness, and renews within me strength and sweetness; He makes me well; He sustains me; He helps me up; He strengthens me. Oh, how good is the Lord, who does not suffer His servants to be tempted above that they are able I Oh, how easy, pleasant and sweet is His yoke I Is there any like God the Most High, who sustains and refreshes those that are tempted? He heals them that are bruised and wounded, and restores them altogether. Isa. 41; 43:20. None is like Him. Learn, most beloved brethren, how sweet the Lord is, how faithful and merciful; who visits His servants in trial (Isa. 43:2); who humbles Himself and condescends to be with us in our huts and humble abodes. He gives us a cheerful mind and peaceful heart.

Neh 8:10 Then he said to them, Go eat the fat and drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared. For this day is holy to our LORD. And do not be sorry, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.

Oh that those of us who know the Joy of the Lord, even in the depths of our circumstances, would share this with those who know only weeping and mourning. That we would take the food of God and the living waters of Jehovah and share them with those who have nothing prepared. That we would encourage others and proclaim the goodness of the Lord.

Psa 27:13 I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of Jehovah in the land of the living.
Psa 27:14 Hope in Jehovah; be of good courage, and He shall make your heart strong; yea, hope in Jehovah.

Oh Lord help us to feed those who faint through weariness and tears, and rise up and proclaim victory in Jesus , our savior forever. We have called our solemn fasts and gatherings, now it is time to rise up and put on the garments of praise and replace our spirit of heaviness with a spirit that magnifies our King. With a spirit that says I have seen the King of glory. With a spirit that can say “mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. With a spirit that praises you oh Lord in the very depths of a dungeon or the very heights of the mountaintops where you were transfigured. Oh lord give us a spirit that marches on, that runs the race, that gets up when it falls down that can sing with the saints glory, glory, glory hallelujah. That can run and not grow weary .

Oh Lord give us a spirit that can say “and we loved not our lives unto death.” Let us recognize oh Lord that there is victory. That there is a victorious life to be led. Give us eyes that are lifted heavenward unto you, the author and the finisher of our faith. Let us indeed walk in Joy, the fullness of the Lord and then we will be strong. Let there indeed be tears at how far we fall short, but also let there be Joy in knowing you Lord, and knowing that your shed blood has brought us victory. Yes, let us look to Calvary and cry out in repentance, but let us also rejoice in the victory over sin and death and hell. Let us indeed walk in the fullness of your council. Let us boldly testify that we know you, not in the region of our heads but in the depths of our hearts. Let us, by our example reach out to those who have never known you but who seek to know you. Let us reach out to those who have left their first love and now desire, in these last days,to return to you in the fullness of relationship. Let the hungry see us eating at the table you prepared for us in the presence of our enemies, let those who seek to follow your ways see that you have anointed our heads with the oil of gladness, let those who thirst for you see us drink from the wells of eternal living water. Let our joy be a testimony to a world without joy. Let our peace be a testimony to a world that is drowning in anxiety. Let the world see a people, that despite their circumstances, drink from a cup that overflows…….amen.

There are times we all lack, that's why we need Jesus. Simple but I found it so true for me. My eyes are not on the Lord but on me.

So I say to you and to me.

Turn our eyes upon Jesus and look full into His wonderful Face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His Glory and Grace.

I will read the Psalms on praising and worshiping the Lord and soon my eyes are back on my Savior and the things of this world are all beneath Him. And I will sing, put on my worship music, can't help but to sing and praise and worship. That will kick out the enemy and bring joy. You, your family and the Lord will all be rejoicing! Works for me. God loves you!!! Glory to God!

Richard

You are in a blessed place because the Holy Spirit is dealing with you and opening your eyes to your position, whereby you are dwelling in a strange land, by the rivers of Babylon, having hung up your harp on a willow and are wearing sackcloth and ashes.

But the Lord wants to put a new song in your mouth
where :

Lo the winter is past : The rain is over and gone : The flowers appear on the earth : The time of the singing of birds is come : The voice of the turtle is heard in our land : The fig tree putteth forth her green figs : And the vines with the tender give a good smell. Song 2:11-13.

If you stand in the Light and do not turn away from it, or try to sooth those feelings through ACTIONS or FALSE ASSURANCES then the Lord will perfect His work in you.

You are blessed because many are poor and blind but do not see it, but the Lord has given you the sight to see. The Light must burn away the darkness first though, so abide in it and listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit which will convict you of your sinfulness, which will hurt for a while but is much better then to reason your way out of the place you are in. The only safe place for you is to put a wall around your mind enclosing the words of Christ alone, and refusing any voice that is not His as many will try to turn you away from your journey. The path is steep and few there are that climb it but if you wish to live in the presence of the living God then you must climb up.

Thanks Brenda for the words of encouragment. I am grateful that the Lord is showing me this area where I lack. Just the other day I was listening to a Brother who has been a Christian for some time, but just recently recieved some awesome revelations on His word. And sitting there listening to how excited he was, how he spoke about the Lord and the obvious joy he had in his heart...almost depressed me. I sat there asking myself why I didn't have the same joy. I was jealous, but later realized that I was very happy for him. Happy to see a Brother in the Lord excited and joyful in the new revelations he was recieving.

I know I'm sitting at a crossroad. I can either ignore this pain in my heart and give myself some reason to rationalize it, or I can ever lean on God for more revelation on myself. I know I can't turn my back to God anymore. I've tasted His Grace and peace in my life and I feel in my heart that I can't retreat. But Lord, I need help to figure out what it is within me and why I lack this unexplainable joy that my Brother has.

Recieving His salvation, then thinking something is still wrong with ourselves is actually saying, "God, You killing your Son for me was not good enough. I will find my problem and fix it myself."

Worship Jesus.

Reread Joyful_Hearts posts, and think seriously about the part "turn your eye's upon Jesus." Then reread all the others and think about it. Then do something about it.

The joy grows.

When revelation comes, i do get happy and quite excited, but that is hardly the joy experienced living focused on Him.

Richard, it's so obvious that the Lord has His hand on you and your desire for Him is so refreshing to hear. I can relate well to what you are going through.

I see something of myself in your story and it wasn't until I got baptized in the Holy Spirit that I was overcome with this unspeakable joy and full of fire. This was a definite experience which changed me completely. I believe you would do well to seek out someone who will lay hands on you or pray for you for the Baptism. There are many scriptures in the Book of Acts that attest to this experience.

God Bless in your seeking Him.

I have to agree with Linda. This is what the word says about the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Is God still calling people? Well then the promise is still good. It will revolutionize your life. I have just been reading about the revivals in China by Marie Monsen and the revival in Korea, by Goforth and the Holy Spirit is what turned lives around and delivered them.

Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

I would caution you to be wary of who you seek help from at the moment and who you allow to lay hands on youself. The answer you are seeking is within, be led by the Spirit and wait for the voice of Christ. Many are not discerning the spirits and pass on those which are not from God.

The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee is useful in explaining how believers get trapped into working in the flesh, and struggling with sin when what is required is faith that it has been dealt with on the cross. I do not recommend other aspects of his teaching but in this he is good and the book was instrumental in my sanctification.
When I read this truth, and the Lord applied it to my heart, I was overwhelmed with joy unspeakable. It is the truth which sets us free not some experience.

HI Brenda, the truth and experience are not mutually exclusive. Just because there are bad and counterfiet experiences out there should not mean that one does not seek an encounter with the living God. One must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. I wholeheartedly agree with discerning who to allow to lay hands on you. You wrote........ "I was overwhelmed with joy unspeakable. It is the truth which sets us free not some experience."

To be "overwhelmed with joy unspeakable" is an experience, it is an encounter with the living God and all Christians should be encouraged to have such an encounter, not once but continullly seek God's face in their walk with Him. Of course there will be seasons in all of our lives, but we should never cease to press forward and press in and draw near to Him, when we do this, He will draw near to us. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. This is the written Word of God and is the Truth. God bless you and Richard and all hungry and thirsty brothers and sisters, let this be all of our cry "As the deer panteth for the waterbrooks, so my soul longeth after thee." ..........brother Frank

I agree with what you are saying. I just listened to a message by Brother Zac Poonen on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and I think I'm coming to an understanding, but I'm waiting for revelation about it.

One of the things Brother Zac mentions that just made me sit back and think was how many of us see Jesus. That most of us see Him as our "forgiver" instead of our Savior. We always go to Him for forgivness, instead of salvation from our sin. That's the first promise in the N.T. was that He would save us from our sins. Jesus means for me to have total victory over sin.

I'm seeking and thirsting for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and will praise Him while I wait. Thank you all for the words of encouragment.
