Is my Christianity truly unique?

I happened upon BYU (Brigham Young University) TV. Five Mormon scholars from BYU were seated around a table expounding the book of Mormon and the Bible. The book of Mormon was prioritized. The deceit was mind boggling.One professor was brought to tears by a passage that had so much meaning for him from, I think, the book of Jacob.Words mentioned were Christ, atonement, Holy Spirit and others Christian terms that we know so well along with a complimentary Bible verse or two.
They mentioned the necessity of good deeds, prayer, perseverance and had an apparent a love for God. I began to think as I observed all of this that this is a working after the flesh.
I wondered how many Christians are living their lives just as Mormons in the flesh."It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all." "You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside is full of dead men's bones and everything unclean".
Am I truly living the Christian life empowered by God the Holy Spirit or going through the motions?

I recall watching a German painter on TV years ago. He would be so touched emotionally by the colors in the paintings that he would weep on television as he talked about the beauty of the colors. I have heard ex-mormons speak of the fact that one of the deceptions was the fact that they often became emotional just as this man apparently did.

I am a very emotional person, and it is not hard for the tears to come, but I have learned not to count on my emotions too heavily. Even something that "feels" so right can be wrong if we are walking after our own understanding. We must have the mind of Christ through the indwelling Holy Spirit as Paul describes in 1 Cor. 2 to be able to discern, and we must be in the spirit in the Word so it can do its work of dividing between soul and spirit through being revealed by the Holy Spirit as we read and study.

Unfortunately, mormonism along with all other false religious systems are about what we do for God rather than about what He has done for us. It is about man's performance rather than Christ's atonement and God's grace.

Can I recommend that you get a copy of "The Latent Power of the Soul," by Watchman Nee. I think he does a superb job of opening ones eyes to some fairly unorthodox/yet very wise ways of gnawing at the problem you propose here DesertRose.
