Hello my dear brothers and sisters,

I would just like some wise counsel on this particular author, Philip Gulley. I have come across some of his books, "If the Church were Christian" and "If God is Love", and do not know much about him and his theology. I am cautious and would welcome any comments or insight.

Thank you - Amy

"Never give a sucker an even break,
and never smarten up a chump."
~W.C. Feilds

You probably didn't know, but:
It's Emergent Church!
Beware.

Alot of people have alot of good things to say, but it is the little lies mingled with the truth that sucker many people in. Good truths are often designed in a corrupt scheme to take in the undiscerning.

If God gives you the gift of discerning of spirits you can see these type things a mile off. Pray unceasing for this and God will give it to you. This gift is part and parcel of the wisdom of God--> Jas. 1:17,5,6,7

Phillip Gulley is a Progressive (Quaker) author.

While visiting Philly, PA in 1987, the Quaker bookstore was visited, because it was near to the Liberty Bell. Surprisingly was found books of all belief systems: satanism, wesotericism, Santeria, Table tipping, Benjamin Franklin's books (deist), sorcery, theosophy, new thought, witrchcraft, hoodoo, voodoo, catholicism, and just about any of all the various philosophies (religious and non)...to name just a very few texts found there.

Their book store would put a Unitarian Church bookstore or any antiquarian bookshop to shame. Almost an hour was spent perusing shelf after shelf. Heading out the door to make the tour time i was waiting for, the lady behind the cash register said,"if you didn't find what you were looking for, we can get you any book you might need... and we have a whole list of various groups that you can connect with to assist you in your belief...

If you are wishing to drive into the danger zone,
There's your ticket.

This cannot be said enough:
Stay away.
Stay far far away.
Be afraid.
Be very afraid of being taken in should you begin reading.

If anybody thinks they stand so upright they will not be taken in, pride goes before destruction.

Are you familiar with NLP?
having looked at his book on "if grace...", it was observed in that book he employs subtle NLP techniques -(very effective hypnotic methods)- in the writing style used in that book. Whether this is intentional or not really doesn't matter. If he did it once, he is probably better at it by now. (There is a reason these folks gather crowds.)
[some say that being in the presence of another induced through NLP tech is neccessary- (pacing and leading, anchoring, modeling, etc)- however, this has been seen to not be the case.]

Stick with the Bible.
There is more than enough material there for over a lifetime, and then 777 plus.

How's that for a book review???

Thank you Phanetheus - I very much appreciate you taking the time to write and share with me. I have only read a bit about the emergent church, so do not know much about it or who are the main proponents of it. I do thank the Lord for the hesitancy He put in my spirit and am grateful that you confirmed it.

Blessings - Amy

Colossians 2:

1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

[Selah]

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Chapter 3:
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

II Cor. 4:

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

All for the purpose and power and authority of our Great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Thanks be to our merciful Heavenly Father who has not appointed us to suffer His fiery indignatation, but rather has given us an eternal inhertance among the saints, namely, all that is in and of Jesus Christ, and this fellowship in His body.

Reflection further on that visit to Philodelphia quickly caused realization that the year was 1986 and not 1987.

Though that prolly makes little difference to most, it does here. It was very near to the aniversary date of the first year alive again -(because He lives and reigns)- after one fatal day. (...seee, it may seem quite strange, but i have three birthdays...
....................born-->Jan. 04, 1962
set free and regenerated-->Feb. 26, 1976
.............resurrected-->May 04, 1985
Though the first, and as well, regular holidays are often literally forgotten, the other two are impossible to forget, even though the last two are only rejoiced in heaven and by me.)

p.s... II Cor. 4:7, Col. 2:6,3:15 We all gotz it! Yet some, by the flesh, just fail to recognize,experience, and use it -this peace that surpasses reason- and it is pleasing to know you in this same peace, are wary to turn away from such. May His Shalom be poured into your life further as you press on, continuing in Him by whose name we are called, Christ Jesus our Lord and Master, giving us true liberty in the loss of our own life, with the promise of the whole universe and beyond at our feet, by adoption as sons and daughters into His eternal kingly family line, becoming His own flesh and blood in the earth and possessing inheritance of the same: incorruptible, undefiled, and never fading away, on reserve in heaven for us.

p.s.s. Jn. 17:3,12:25

I Tim 6:

13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life...

20 ...keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
