I Need the Prayers of the Saints

G
ginnyrose May 29, 2010

I have volunteered to teach the young teenaged girls at our VBS beginning June 7. When the opportunity arose, I felt in my spirit a delight at being able to do this - like a dream come true. Then the organizers gave me the lit they want me to use. And then I became rattled in my soul.

The curriculum is written by Jen Rawson titled "Becoming a young Woman of God" and "Living as a Young Woman of God". There are a total of 16 lessons and I am supposed to do it in five sessions. Great.

In the weeks since receiving this lit, I would look at it, tried to study it but it was a no-go at every turn. How I wished I could do my own. This idea stays in the far corners of my mind. And then the idea comes that I can, but I can use ideas from these books to help with my knowledge and presentation. (The students will not get a book.)

I was getting desperate in knowing how I will teach these girls. However, this morning the LORD did give me a vision on the topics to be shared: 1.Examining Popular Culture; 2. The Lies of Popular Culture; 3. The Consequences of Popular Culture; 4. The Remedy of Popular Culture; 5. Living Victoriously over Popular Culture.

Most, if not all, of these girls go to church. BUT the church is powerless to teach godly living. It is a mere religion of 'doing what you want.' None of the girls come from a two-parent home. All have been involved in fornication. This is their life; their culture.

But they keep coming. VBS is geared to reach children up to the ages of 12 or 13. If they have attended before they just keep coming regardless how old they are so the planners decided to have classes for the older teens as well. What complicates the job even more is that there will be girls there who have pure, undefiled minds. How will one reach the community girls without contaminating the minds of the pure minds there?

My prayer request is for knowledge and then the wisdom to know how and what to teach. But what is needed above all is the Holy Spirit using this time to speak to these precious souls. This is of much greater need then my mere teaching.

If the Holy Spirit prompts you to pray for this event, please do so.

PS: EDIT: If anyone has any insights to share, please do so.

Only what was done with my own daughters, and the excellent results from that can be spoken of.

Both of them are devout in the faith, without my having to intervene at all.

I have never ever pointed them to look at or to the world, whether to observe culture or any norm.

I have ever and always pointed them to Jesus Christ as the measure and example towards our very existence both here and now, as well as eternity.

From the scriptures as well, i have always observed to show them Jesus in everything that is written.

This has prospered in a firm and unshakeable faith in God in each of them.

There are times when sometimes it seems things could go awry with them, but humility and according prayer does wonders.

gregg,

I perfectly understand where you are coming from. And I am so glad your daughters obeyed you and your teaching. And this is why I am loathe to teach these pure, undefiled girls. The girls I will be teaching are those whose bodies, minds have been defiled.

When teaching girls who live in the gutter, you have to demonstrate to them how this culture is satanic. This is the goal. And then you will have to demonstrate to them the remedy/solution. After this, how can I live over sin and temptation.

Does this make sense?

Brother, when I counseled at CPC we learned quickly you have to go where the client is before you can reach them. One can stay way up there and look down at them and they won't get it. They need to know that you know and are not ignorant and that we know there is redemption. And that is what the Gospel is all about. It is a modern day version of Jeremiah preaching.

Just thank the LORD, gregg, your daughters did not experience the environment that these girls live in - in fact, it is ALL they know.

Pray for them and all of us as we prepare....

g: ok, so, the ones you are teaching are from both "spectrums"? The last two sentences read together confuse me. Is the last sentence another paragraph? It would seem so from the following of your post, so i'll stick with that unless you say otherwise.

Actually, it was not a matter of me making my daughters obey any of what they have seen done nor the why heard about it. They ask questions after they see the doing, and the reason comes from the scriptures. They are both well aware that i am far from perfect, as probably many here are clear about this as well. They have seen me on my knees and in action.

They have nearly always been left to make the choices they do for themselves, except when they come to dear old dad for counsel. The know what the Bible says and have seen the results lived out and blessings recieved. BOTH things are from God.

yep!

How can a blind person see what is wrong?
How does the deaf one hear it?
How can one set in wrong habit patterns even look or listen for the right way if nobody takes up the basin and the towel.

i know.

Living on the streets with the distained, downtrodden, destitute, and these who seem to lose out all the time, the situation even to me appeared so hopeless: no way out.

Would to God that more will take to the highways and byways, the backroads and alleys and give these the love of Jesus Christ.

They have mostly seen it from the outside looking in and as a result, looked to God's Word and seen everything is exactly as God says it is.

Now that they are both teens, by their own choices, without the prompting of ma and pa, they are active in outreach as you speak of. In the summer, when school is out, they have been directly involved in mission work of some sort or another. (You should have seen the excitement on the eldest's face the first time 'telling', and the person told recieved Jesus as Lord and Saviour, when canvassing the city to which she was sent on one such mission trip.)

Thank-you, Chris and gregg.

The last thing I want to do is say the wrong thing wherein I will be misunderstood. You know one can give ever so fine a presentation but if the Holy Spirit is not there it is an exercise in futility.

Nellie,

I admire you going to the nursing home to minister to lonely people there.

I consider a nursing home like a holding tank where people are kept till death claims them! So depressing!

You have a great job, Nellie! God Bless YOU!

Well...here is an update.

Tonight we had the first session of VBS. I was expecting 8-10 girls; but maybe 12 if we have a good turn out. Instead there were 17! I ran out of supplies, both in crafts and lessons. One sister had not signed up to help but when she saw how many students I had she came and helped me. PTL for her!

They did listen pretty well. I just hope we can help these girls, that there would be a break through in the lives of these poor people. The consequences of sin in this community is taking its toll on its people.

Tonight the lesson was on "Truth Challenged", discussing the creation of man and then his fall, highlighting the strategy the devil used to tempt Eve.

Tuesday night it will be on "Principles of Life", discussing the ten commandments and how we fail to keep them.

Wednesday night "Consequences of Violating God's Will" zeroing in on immorality. Thursday night the plans are to share the "Dilemma Sin Creates in a person" and on Friday "Living Victoriously Over Sin or Popular Culture". These are the plans unless God would show me otherwise.

Pray for us all, Please!

Thank-you for your kindness, your words of encouragement. Just continue to pray for these girls...

After last night I felt so rattled. In the assembly the leader led the music by playing his guitar. This seemed to evoke such noise it really rattles me in my spirit. I am thinking long and hard to stay out of this assembly and let my helpers lead the girls to my tent outside. There I can spend time better in praying and still my emotions.

Maybe this is a clash in cultures - I am not sure. We were always taught to be quiet and reverent in the house of the LORD and we taught our children likewise. These children do not have a clue....

I know God loves them and it is my desire this love can be reflected to them as I relate. If my spirit is rattled it will hinder that flow of love.

I need the prayers so I will not hinder God's working...

I appreciate the prayers of all the saints....

An update:

Last night I shared with 14 girls the "Consequences of Sin" in particular the areas of morals.

I had gotten some lit dealing with chasity/STDs from a CPC to hand out for them to take home. It was very good. I showed it to the superintendents and asked that the four girls from our church be elsewhere because I want to be free to speak and not worry their pure minds. They did ask these girls to help elsewhere but then asked I do not allow the girls to take this lit home because of liability issues! Well! I was not expecting that...

Since they are in authority over me, I happily submitted. I talked, shared. The LORD gave me words to say and the devil worked to hinder. There was a time when they all got real quiet and they were thinking, the message was taking root when some fellow on the outside threw a rock and it hit one of the tent's post with a resulting 'crack'. A hyper girl screamed and the mood was broken never to return.

Afterwards I spoke bluntly to two older girls and pointedly asked them to "don't do it! God has much for you do do!" They agreed ....

Now tonight we will be talking about "The Dilemma Sin Creates in a Person", how a person can be redeemed by the Blood of Jesus. Then tomorrow, if the LORD so leads, how to live victoriously over sin and temptation.

All for now. And pray that regardless of distractions God will still work. And that these distractions will not rattle me.

Last night was our last evening of VBS.

I look back on this week as one that sapped every ounce of emotional, spiritual energy within me, but was also infused with energy from the Holy Spirit.

The stressful times occur when there are a couple girls who work to distract, cause disturbances. The past two nights was totally different. And I am not sure why but I can guess: the ring leaders were absent but not their followers; we went to the woods for our classes (another teacher said the woods has a calming effect on rowdy students); and God intervened. I am of the persuasion God orchestrated all the natural to bring about the desired. Perhaps I needed it to help me understand for certain that the success of this event is totally in His hands because by myself I am absolutely helpless.

Anyhow...by last two nights, the class was quiet, very subdued. I sensed the one girl being under heavy conviction. I asked her if God is speaking to her and she said "Yes". I asked what is he saying" "Oh, he is saying a lot of things..." Pray for Kaitland (sp?) if the Holy Spirit ever puts her in your minds.

Thank-you for your prayers and words of encouragement. During this week your words of encouragement came back to minister to me. This was precious. I love you and God bless you.
