Prayer for those struggling with sexual sin!

J
Justus2320 Jun 1, 2010

Father, we thank you for the most valuable gift, Salvation through the cross of your son Jesus Christ. Lord I am a weak, pathetic man, I am fallible, I am a chief sinner, but glory to God, that you are merciful and mighty! Thank the Lord that we can boast of our weakness that you may be made strong in us! Lord I confess that I have sinned with the lust of my eyes, I have committed adultery within my heart time and time again, with pornography and almost any way possible. Father I acknowledge that I will increasingly need you for the rest of the days that you have given me. Lord have mercy on us! Father let this prayer that you hear, not be one of pride, examine my heart and help me like you always do,thank you Father! Father although there is nothing new under the sun, for the heart of man has always been the same, but the influence and the rampant access of sexual sin has bruised some of your children, but a bruised reed you will not break. Father I pray for those of us who are loosing our LOVE for you by choosing pornography over you, that you be merciful to us,Father we need true repentance once and for all, that we may enter heaven with no eyes and no hands if it need be, have mercy Lord! We need your son,we need our Saviour Jesus Christ, who saved us from our sin! THANK YOU JESUS! Help us and I know we will be helped. We are utterly hopeless without you Jesus. We are without excuse Lord, for our atrocities, for we sin against a holy God, forgive us! Father I know nothing, absolutely nothing, hear our cry! Father we want to obey you, Father we want to love your Son, Father we do not want to grieve your Holy Spirit, we ask this of you, our loving Father! We have no hope without you Jesus, we are disabled, incapacitated, we are down ,we are broken,we are dead without you Jesus!
Father, thank you because the work that you have started in us you will finish, We pray in the name which is above all names, Jesus Christ, Amen.

That prayer is for me to, because i have fallen because of it many times and am struggling now more than ever with it. Please pray for my deliverance.

I think we all struggle with this sin. guys and girls included.

Often times we put all the blame on us but sex is a very powerful weapon of Satan. And our flesh is so weak to it.

I would say that this is his top 3 weapons of choice.

I think he also knows how weak we are to this sin and makes us feel condemned and dirty to make some of us fall away from God because of the guilt. Satan knows what he is doing.

I'm not 100% sure but i feel that I am focusing too much on my sins and not enough on learning God's love for me and learning to love Him back. I believe that issues like sin will eventually take care of themselves when we have that attitude. And in most instances, sin doesn't disappear overnight.

I stand amazed and in moment by moment victory of sexual sin after a life of struggle. I am not sure how to convey it, but it was more seeking Him, than dealing with sin, yet standing. My story isn't abnormal. As a matter of fact, it is probably a stereo-typical Brother gone bad, story that many of us keep hidden. We as Christians do little about Standing against the enemy and I, for one, did it from time to time and when the sin came back I was convinced the Bible said I could have victory, but not really "me". It would take quite some time to properly convey how to "walk out" of this and all other sin, but I would be glad to share it with those who email me. I would have to take some time to put the journey in written form, but that is what God has given us time for. I choose not to be the servant with one talent (time) and not used it for God's Kingdom.

I now share in a group of those seeking to stand against all the wiles of the enemy, which includes sexual sin, especially in marriage, something that we don't realize and hence continue to struggle in.

We need not be double-minded anymore, but rather transformed/conformed to the Word and hence a renewed mind. Wow... I am excited just typing it. May He forever be praised and glorified through us, His Saints. !!!

Dear brothers,

I believe the Lord wants us to walk in victory in this area and in James 5:16 it says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."

I have struggled in this area, and have also experienced God's deliverance. Praise His name ! If we pray for one another, and possibly fast, this may be the means through which He'll accomplish a great work; one that will bring glory to His name. If anyone would like to join me in this, please PM me.

Ecclesiastes 4:10
"For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up."
1 John 2:13
"I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father."

In Jesus,
John

but it was more seeking Him, than dealing with sin

You've hit it on the nail right there brother.

There is no amount of fasting that will take this away, though I will not rule it out entirely God works through many different avenues.

It's not the panicking or being anxious that any one be delivered, but it's that simply seeking, building a relationship with Him, that through time of simple fellow-shipping, this will fall away without us even knowing it.

I have prayed and fasted extensively for several weeks, and yes there is a greater freedom over sin like never before, but when I started eating food again and coming down from that "high", all that I prayed against and prayed for deliverance were all waiting for me.

I think the answer is what the this poster has suggested that we must stop fretting and start seeking God daily and building a relationship with Him and leave this sexual sin with Him even though we may pick it up from time to time, yet we must continually come to Him to deal with it or we will go completely mad.

There is definitely something there Snuf, when I came into contact with God's Holiness and knew about His love and Mercy it seems that building that relationship is what became important to me I completely stopped struggling as intensely with this sin because it wasn't my focus of Not doing it but my focus was Christ Jesus and learning about Him. This also applies to my other struggles as well God seems to be slowly but surely cutting them out of my life as I build my relationship with Him. I soon began to hate the sin that I once loved because I simply Loved and Love God more than those sins.

Brother,

I read this and I had to respond to your quote. I understand that we all may have dealt with this sin in different measures in our life, some completely addicted, others much less.

I agree that we need to "stop fretting and start seeking", in my life and others, we need to understand that God the Father does truly love us and we need to turn to God the Father for life and help in overcoming any temptations.

But the phrase you wrote

even though we may pick it up from time to time
...

Shouldn't we not plan on "picking up" sexual sin ever again or still expect it? Should we "go and sin no more"? and look for the way of escape from temptation or 'just expect to sin sexually again?"

Thoughts?

Blessings,
Doug

MyVeryHeart,
That video testimony is excellent. It made me think about the previous discussion on this issue.

Satan wants us to stay captive to sin, and to think that we don't really have victory in Christ. The truth is that we are more than conquerors in Christ, that we have exceedingly great power by His Spirit, that we are slaves to righteousness in Him... IF the Spirit of Christ truly dwells in us.

Whether someone is a slave to sin, or struggling against it, the answer is always the same: Turn to Christ.
Once you have Christ, abide in Him. By the Spirit, make war and put this sin to death.

We need to realize that this is an ongoing war. You will never be able to sit back and say, "I don't need to fight anymore, the war's over." Only when Christ takes us home will we be able to do that. Until then, take up your armor. Take up your sword, your bow, your shield, and come in the ranks. We should be here for one another. If a brother is struggling in the battle, we should be there with him DURING THE FIGHT, not simply picking up the pieces after defeat. I strongly believe in that. If a brother calls me at 3:00 a.m. and wants me to pray with him because he is struggling against sin, may I always be available to carry his burden. That is true brotherly love.

Praise God for the victory that He has given us in Christ. This is not just a theory; this is a reality. Let us always remember this powerful truth.

This is exactly what was on my heart, too much focus is on sin. That's exactly how we're taught at church to be perfect and that if we fall to sexual sin, we are perverts and unholy. When the truth is the most upright man can have the dirtiest heart and even the dirtiest prostitute can have the cleanest heart before God.

It's about your heart and only God can help. We are evil, sinners and powerless to sin. Only God can help.

This is really confusing. See how easily this can be works based salvation here too. He is saying that if you struggle with sexual sin, you are not saved. That if you struggle with drug or any other addiction, you are not saved. This is a works based salvation.

Someone please explain.

Someone please explain.

He is testifying not teaching on salvation. That being said, "No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1 John 3:9)

"Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

Brother codek,

I know I'm a female but I'm 51, probably old enough to be your mother so I will speak as a mother to you on this issue...

You CANNOT believe every person who says they are of God, I’m sorry. I don't care what Scriptures they throw at you, that is the “letter of the law” and God’s own word says that the letter of the law kills but it’s the Spirit that gives life. And the Spirit of God will lead you into all truth (John 16.13). God is for you, brother and wants you to be an overcomer!

Mark 16.18 says.... “they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

If you do not go to a church where they lay hands on, YOU (yes, you can!), YOU start laying hands on your own self and pray and believe that you will recover from whatever it is that plagues you. Tell the Lord, the Bible says this and that and I’m just dumb enough to believe your word, God. Nothing else has worked so I will stand on your word; that I will recover from __________. I believe that by your power I will recover from (such and such), in your name Jesus, I pray.

In your secret prayer closet, start worshipping Him; telling God how wonderful He is, etc; then lay your hands on your head (everyday) and confess the exact natural of your sins (yes, it's humiliating but it's honest before God); then repent and BELIEVE that you are forgiven and that you will recover in Jesus name.

Do not give up until you know that you know that God has heard your hearts cry. Sometimes we give up too soon, brother. Don't give up!

God bless you and someday, let us know how this turns out. I expect to hear wonderful things!

Lisa
