See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.--Eph. 5:15, 16
"See then how ye walk in exactness," is Bishop Elliocott's translation. There is here a double idea--"See HOW ye walk," and "THAT ye walk circumspectly." Both the MANNER of the walk and the ACT of walking are included in the thought. It is of the first importance that we take heed to the manner in which we walk before men, "Walk in wisdom toward them that are without." Be not indifferent to the fact that you may be misunderstood. While we are not to walk so as to please men, let us not err on the other side and so walk that our good is evil spoken of. Let us walk accurately, correctly, in relation to unbelievers, so that we give no occaison of stumbling.
"Buying up for yourselves the seasonable time." "Special seasons for good occaisonally present themselves, of which believers ought diligently to avail themselves." All this implies an attitude of trust, a spirit of prayer, and a habit of holy vigilance. It is only as that is true, that we can walk circumspectly.
